How do I clear the message "NEAR EMPTY" from the display? Near Ink Empty

Description of Solution 200000000724

The message "NEAR EMPTY [Color]" will appear on the display to alert youthat an ink cartridge(s) is running low and will soon need to be replaced.

The message "NEAR EMPTY [Color]# is an alert, not an error message. Yourmachine will continue to operate until the ink cartridge is empty.

You are not required to change the ink cartridge until #INK EMPTY# appears.

However, if the machine is only displaying #NEAR EMPTY [Color]# and you want to replace the near empty ink cartridge, follow the instructions listed below:

Brother strongly recommends that customers use only genuine Brother ink for best results. Using non-Brother supplies may affect the hardware performance, print quality and machine reliability since the ink formulation in genuine Brother ink cartridges prevent smearing and clogging of the print head. The Brother limited warranty does not applyto any problem that was caused by the use of third party ink and/or cartridges.

1. Open the ink cartridge cover located in the front of the machine, on the right side.

2. Push the purple lock release lever down and then remove the ink cartridge for the color shown on the LCD.

3. Open a new Brother Genuine ink cartridge for the color shown on the LCD and remove the cartridge from the vacuum sealed plastic bag.

4. Take off the protective yellow cap. NOTE: If the protective yellow cap comes off when you remove the cartridge from the bag, the cartridge will not be damaged.

5. Each color has its own correct position. Insert the new ink cartridgein the appropriate position in the direction of the arrow on the label.

6. Lift and slowly push the lock release lever until it clicks into place.

7. Close the ink cartridge cover.

8. Normally the machine will enter a brief cleaning mode automatically to prepare the newly installed ink cartridge for use.

-However, if you removed or replaced an ink cartridge of a color other than the one indicated on the LCD, the machine will ask you to verify whether a brand-new cartridge has been installed.

-For example, if the machine is indicating #NEAR EMPTY BLACK# and you replace the Black cartridge but also remove and reinstall the Cyan cartridge, the machine will display #Did You Change Cyan?# If a BRAND NEW Cyan cartridge was installed, press 1 (Yes) to reset the ink dot counter for that color. If the ink cartridge you installed is not a brand new one, press 2 (No). If you wait until the LCD shows Ink Empty and Near Empty, the machine will automatically reset the ink dot counter.

9. After responding to any prompts on the LCD, the machine will enter a brief cleaning cycle for each replaced cartridge. The LCD alternately shows CLEANING and PLEASE WAIT. When the machine completes the cleaning cycle, the LCD will return to the Standby mode.

NOTE:

- It is not unusual for the color ink cartridges to run out of ink at about the same time. Photo printing frequently consumes similar amounts of the three cartridges to produce the printed output. If the machine continues to display #NEAR EMPTY [Color]# carefully check the color indicated.

If it is the same as the cartridge you just replaced see below for detail on servicing your machine.

If it is a different color, wait until the machine indicates #INK EMPTY [Color]# and then replace the indicated cartridge.

- Do not take out ink cartridges if you do not need to replace them. If you do so, it may reduce the ink quantity and the machine will not know the quantity of ink left in the cartridge.

- If the LCD shows No Cartridge after you install the ink cartridges, check that ink cartridges are installed properly.

- If you mix the colors by installing an ink cartridge in the wrong position, clean the print head several times after correcting the cartridge installation.

- Once you open an ink cartridge, install it in the machine and use it up within six months of installation. Use unopened ink cartridges by the expiration date indicated on the cartridge package.

If the message NEAR EMPTY [Color] continues to appear on the display after replacing the ink cartridge(s) with new genuine Brother Ink cartridge(s), your machine will require service.
