Description of Solution 200000001229

The computer or router rebooting, restarting, shutting down, or entering hibernation mode when the Brother machine is powered on or starts printing can be caused by the power supply or cable connection to the Brother machine and computer.

1.    Power off the Brother machine.

2.    Disconnect the interface cable (if one is connected).

3.    Power off the computer or router (whichever device is rebooting, restarting, shutting down, or entering hibernation mode when the Brother machine is powered on or starts printing).

4.    Power the computer or router back on.

5.    Once the computer or router has booted, power the Brother machine back on.

-      If the computer or router still reboots, restarts, shuts down, or enters hibernation mode, this problem is related to the power source for the Brother machine and computer or router. Continue to the next step,

-      If the computer or router does not reboot, restart, shut down, or enter hibernation mode, the interface cable or connection may be causing this problem. Make sure the cable connects from the back of the Brother machine directly to the computer. If the cable connects to a switchbox, scanner, zip drive, hub, etc. it may be causing this problem. Try a direct connection.

6.    If the Brother machine and computer or router are plugged into the same surge protector, uninterruptible power supply, or power backup device, power everything off.

7.    Unplug the Brother machine power cord from the power device.

8.    Plug the Brother machine power cord directly into a wall outlet or a different surge protector strip. You may need to use the reset button on the power device.

9.    Power the computer or router back on.

10. Once the computer or router has booted, power the Brother machine back on.

-      If the computer or router does not reboot, restart, shut down, or enter hibernation mode, power off the Brother machine and computer or router then reconnect the interface cable and power the Brother machine back on.

-      If the computer or router reboots, restarts, shuts down, or enters hibernation mode, the interface cable or connection may be causing this problem. Make sure the cable connects from the back of the Brother machine directly to the computer. If the cable connects to a switchbox, scanner, zip drive, hub, etc. it may be causing this problem. Try a direct connection.

-      If the computer or router does not reboot, restart, shut down, or enter hibernation mode, the surge protector, uninterruptible power supply, or power backup device cannot supply adequate power to the Brother machine and the computer or router.  Keep the Brother machine power cord plugged directly into the wall or try plugging the Brother machine into a separate surge protector, uninterruptible power supply or power backup device.
