The printed pages have black vertical lines or streaks. How can I improve the print quality?

Brother strongly recommends that customers use only genuine Brother drum units and/or toner cartridges. Each Brother laser printer is designed to work at pre-set temperatures that are matched exactly to each of our individual toner formulations.  Each individual component is designed to work with the other to ensure quality and reliability. Using non-Brother supplies may affect the hardware performance, print quality and machine reliability. The Brother limited warranty does not apply to any problem that is caused by the use of third party drum units, toner cartridges or toner. 


Follow the steps listed below for cleaning the laser glass and drum unit corona wire:


1. Turn off the printer's power switch (located on the right side of the printer). Unplug the power cord from the back of the machine.


2. Open the front cover by pulling the tabs on the left and right side of the unit towards you and lift the drum unit slightly to pull it out.



NOTE: Place the drum unit on a piece of disposable paper or cloth to avoid spilling and scattering the toner.


3. With the drum removed from the printer, clean the scanner window. The scanner window is located inside the printer where the drum was located. It is a piece of glass, about 1/2 inch wide and approximately 8 inches long, located on the ceiling of the inside of the printer. Gently wipe the glass with a clean soft dry cloth. DO NOT use isopropyl alcohol or any liquid to clean the glass.



4. Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the blue tab on the top of the drum unit from left to right several times. Return the blue tab to the home position before reinstalling the drum unit. If you do not, printed pages may have a vertical stripe.



5. Reinstall the drum unit into the printer pressing it in securely and close the front cover making sure it latches on both sides.



6. Plug the power cord into the back of the machine and turn the power switch ON.


-      If the Toner LED is on or flashing, replace the toner cartridge with a new genuine Brother TN350 toner cartridge. It is also possible that although the toner cartridge is not low or empty, it may be damaged. Installing a new toner cartridge may resolve the vertical lines.


-      The drum unit may be damaged or beyond its useful life. Installing a new genuine Brother DR350 drum unit may resolve the vertical lines.
