The printed page is completely blank. How can I improve the print quality?

Description of Solution 200000001701

Brother strongly recommends that customers use only genuine Brother drum units and/or toner cartridges. Each Brother laser printer is designed to work at pre-set temperatures that are matched exactly to each of our individual toner formulations.  Each individual component is designed to work with the other to ensure quality and reliability. Using non-Brother supplies may affect the hardware performance, print quality and machine reliability. The Brother limited warranty does not apply to any problem that is caused by the use of third party drum units, toner cartridges or toner.

1. Disconnect the printer cable from the back of the printer.

2. Clean the laser glass and drum unit corona wire.

a. Turn OFF the printer's power switch (located on the right side of the printer). Unplug the power cord from the wall.

b. Open the front cover and remove the drum and toner assembly.

NOTE: We recommend you place the toner and drum assembly on a piece of paper in case you accidentally spill or scatter toner.

c. With the drum removed from the printer, clean the laser glass. The laser glass is located inside the printer where the drum was located. It is a piece of glass, about 1/2 inch wide and approximately 8 inches long, located on the top of the opening. Gently wipe the glass with a clean soft DRY cloth. DO NOT use isopropyl alcohol or any liquid to clean the glass.

d. Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the blue tab on the top of the cartridge from right to left several times. Return the blue tab to the home position before reinstalling the drum unit assembly, otherwise the prints may have a vertical stripe down the page.

e. Reseat the drum and toner assembly into the printer pressing it in securely.

f. Close the front cover.

g. Plug the printer into the wall outlet and turn on the power switch.

3. Test the machine by printing the internal Printer Settings page by pressing the GO button 3 times.

- If the page prints properly, go to STEP 5.

- If the page is still blank, continue to STEP 4.

4. Perform a factory reset.

a. Turn the printer power switch OFF. Check that the front cover is closed.

b. Turn the printer power switch ON while holding down the GO button until the Toner, Drum, and Paper LEDs are lit.

c. Release the GO button. All LEDs will be off.

d. Press the GO button 8 times. The Ready LED will flash briefly while the printer is reset. After the printer is reset the Ready LED will be lit.

e. Test the machine by printing the internal Printer Settings page by pressing the GO button 3 times.

- If the page prints properly, go to STEP 5.
