How do I clear black vertical lines that appear when I print a document, make a copy, send a fax or scan an image into the PC?

Description of Solution 200000004593

Black vertical lines that appear on the faxes you send, the images you scan into the computer and copies you make are typically caused by dirt or white out on the scanner unit.

The scanner unit is the mechanism that reads in the documents that are being copied or transmitted.

This problem is usually resolved by cleaning the scanner glass and the white film located on the underside of the control panel. To clear these lines, follow the instructions listed below:

1.  Unplug the telephone line and then the power cord.  Be sure to do it in that order.

2.  Lift the control panel by lifting up from below the number pad.  The white pressure bar is located under the control panel (spring loaded). The scanner cover glass is located directly below the pressure bar behind the metal roller. Dampen a lint-free cloth with the Isopropyl alcohol and wipe down the white pressure bar and glass. Close the control panel.

3. Close the control panel.

4. Plug the power cord back in and then the telephone line.  Wait for the LCD to return to date and time.

5. Test the machine by making a copy.

a. To make a copy, place the document face down in the ADF and press the COPY Mode key located under the LCD display. Next, press the START key.

6 If the black vertical lines continue to appear on the copied document, repeat the cleaning process. Again, be sure to unplug the telephone line and then the power cord.  In addition to cleaning the scanner glass with the alcohol, run your fingertip over the glass to see if you can feel anything on it. If you feel any debris stuck on the glass, clean the glass again concentrating on that area. You may have to repeat the cleaning process 3 or 4 times to eliminate all dirt or debris on the glass. After each cleaning, be sure to plug in the power cord followed by the telephone line.  Then, make a copy to test.
