The display on my Brother machine is blank and there is no power. What can I do?

Description of Solution 200000008621

1. Verify the power cord is connected to the AC power outlet.

-         If the power cord is connected to a surge protector or power switch, remove the cord from the device and connect it directly to the outlet.  This is for testing purposes. Removing the power cord from the device will assist in determining if the issue is related to the machine or the device.

NOTE: To protect your investment against power surges and lightning, Brother strongly recommends they connect their machine to a surge protector. In particular we suggest that they use a surge protector that is compatible with both standard A.C. power cords and telephone line cords. Surge protectors equipped with telephone jacks will assist in insulating the Brother machine from any power surge that might travel through a telephone line.

2. If the display still remains blank, test the outlet with another device (a working lamp, radio etc.).

-         If that device does not work, the problem is related to the outlet or circuit.

-         You may also need to check for blown circuit.

-         If a wall switch controls the outlet verify the switch is in the ON position.

-         If the power outlet you are using has 2 receptacles, try plugging the fax machine into both receptacles. It is possible for one receptacle will work and the other may not.

3. When the machine has been plugged into a KNOWN working receptacle/outlet you should see a message on the display within 5 seconds. You should also hear noise as the machine resets to the home position.

4. If you do not see a message or hear a noise, make sure the top cover of the machine is closed securely.

  1. Open the cover by pressing the lever on the right hand side.

  1. Close the cover by using both hands to firmly close the cover. You should see a message on the display within 5 seconds. You should also hear noise as the machine resets to the home position.
