How do I clear the message "Check Cartridge" from the display?

Description of Solution 200000008754

The message "Check Cartridge" indicates the machine is out of ribbon or the print cartridge is not properly installed. Make sure there is ribbon remaining in the cartridge and verify the cartridge is installed correctly:

1. Open the machine's front cover (control panel) by pulling it towards the front of the machine.

2. Open the machine's top cover by pressing the blue levers on both sides of the cover.

3. Lift the print cartridge out of the machine.

- There should be ribbon on the white-spooled roller on the left side of the cartridge.

4. Do one of the following:

- If the white-spooled roller is empty, the ribbon has reached the end of its yield.

Replace the ribbon cartridge with a replacement Brother PC-301 print cartridge.

- If there is ribbon on the white-spooled roller, follow these steps:

a. Turn the spool to tighten the ribbon.

b. Place the cartridge back in the unit.

- Install the cartridge by inserting the part of the casing that has the recessed arrow embossed on it in first and then placing the cartridge into its four holders.

c. Close the machine's top cover securely, making sure it latches on both sides.

d. Close the machine's front cover.

5. Press the STOP/EXIT key.

- The display should return to date and time.

- If there was still ribbon available on the cartridge and the message continues to appear on the display after resetting the ribbon cartridge, you must replace the PC-301 ribbon cartridge.
