How do I clear the message "Check Original" from the display

Description of Solution 200000008759

This message would appear if the documents you were faxing or copying were not inserted or fed properly or an original scanned from the ADF (automatic document feeder) was too long.

1. Remove all paper from the ADF that is not jammed.

2. Lift the control panel cover.

3. Carefully pull the original document toward the front of the Brother machine.

4. Close the control panel cover.

5. Press STOP/EXIT.

6. Make a copy to test:

a. Before placing your document(s) in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), verify the message "Check Original" is no longer displayed on the LCD.

- If the message continues to appear on the display, power the machine off by pressing the On/Off switch located on the right side of the machine, wait for 30 seconds then it power back on.

- If the message "Check Original" continues to appear on the display, refer to WARRANTY AND SERVICE OPTIONS below.

b. Verify the ADF document support is attached to the unit.

c. Make sure the documents are inserted face down in the ADF, top edge first. If copying multiple pages, fan the paper and place in the ADF with the edge of the stack of paper at a 30-degree angle (top page lightly touching the document feed roller).

d. When you place the documents in the feeder, verify the bottom line on the LCD changes to "Enter Fax No." and Res:Standard"

If the document is less than 5.8 inches wide, the machine will not copy the documents because the document sensors will not be activated. The documents must be wide enough to reach the sensors to inform the machine there is a document to copy.

- If the documents meet the specifications listed above and the LCD does not change when you place a document in the ADF, remove the document, open and close control panel cover and reinsert the documents into the ADF.

- If the display changes to "Enter Fax No." and Res:Standard", continue to STEP e.

- If the problem continues, refer to WARRANTY AND SERVICE OPTIONS below.

e. Adjust the paper guides on the sides of the ADF to fit the width of the document. This ensures the document will feed straight, preventing jams.

f. Verify there are no more than 30 pages being inserted into the ADF.

NOTE: The ADF is designed to hold up to 30 pages, feeding each one individually through the fax machine.  Also, be sure the paper is standard (20 lb.) paper when using the ADF.

g. Press the COPY mode key located below the LCD and START.

- If the machine makes a copy, the issue is resolved. End the call.

- If the message "Check Original" continues to appear on the display, refer to WARRANTY AND SERVICE OPTIONS below.
