How do I clear the "Check Document" message from my Brother machine's display?

Description of Solution 200000008761

The "Check Document" message will appear on the Brother machine's LCD if the documents you are attempting to fax or copy are too long, or are not inserted or fed properly.

1. Open the front cover by tilting the control panel toward the front of the machine.

2. Remove the document.

3. Close the front cover.

4. Press the STOP/EXIT key.

Make a copy to test:

1. Before placing your document(s) in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), verify the LCD displays the date and time.

- If the "Check Document" message continues to appear on the LCD, follow these steps:

a. Unplug the Brother machine from the power outlet.

b. Wait 30 seconds.

c. Plug the machine back in.

- If "Check Document" continues to appear on the display and your machine is within warranty, you can locate a Brother Authorized Service Center (ASC) in your area by clicking on the link below:

http://www.brother-usa.com/service/default.aspx or contact Brother Customer Service by calling 1-877-BROTHER (1-877-276-8437) Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.

If your machine is out of warranty, you can locate a Brother Authorized Service Center using the information listed above.

2. Place a document in the ADF face down, top edge first.

- When you place the document in the ADF, verify the LCD displays the fax and copy options.

- If the LCD does not display the fax and copy options, make sure the document is between 5.8 and 8.5 inches wide and 3.9 and 23.7 inches long.

If the document is less than 5.8 inches wide, the ADF's sensors will not detect the document.  The document must be wide enough to reach the sensors to inform the machine there is a document to send.  You will need to use a wider sheet of paper.

- If the paper you are trying to copy or fax meets the above-listed specifications and the LCD continues to display the date and time when you place a document in the ADF, follow these steps:

a. Remove the document from the ADF.

b. Open the control panel.

c. Securely close the control panel.

d. Put the document back into the ADF.

3. Adjust the paper guides on the sides of the ADF to fit the width of your document.

- This insures the document will feed straight, preventing jams.

- Be sure not to put more than 10 pages in the ADF.  The ADF is designed to hold up to 10 pages, feeding each one individually through the fax machine.

- Be sure that you are using standard (17lb. - 24lb.) paper in the ADF.

4. Press the COPY key.
