How do I clear a "Please Open Cover" message from the display?

Description of Solution 200000008853

The message "Please Open Cover" may appear on the display if a page, piece of paper, or paper clip is jammed inside the machine or by improper drum and toner installation.

First, unplug the power cord for safety.  Next, follow the instructions listed below.

1. Open the front cover (below the paper ejection tray).

2. Remove the drum unit but do not force it if it cannot be removed easily. Check inside the machine for any jammed paper.

3. If there is any jammed paper, gently pull out the jammed paper (after drum removal).

4. Remove the toner from the drum and check for any jammed or small pieces of paper inside the drum.  If found, remove any small pieces of paper jammed inside the drum. ***This is an important step. Look very carefully for any small piece of paper that may be stuck in the drum.

5. Reinstall the toner into the drum.

6. Reinstall the drum unit into the machine.

7. Close the front cover, pressing firmly on each side until the cover clicks into place.

8. Pull the paper cassette out of the machine and reset the paper. Verify paper meets the paper specifications Recording Paper Size: Letter, Legal or A4. Adjust the guides to fit the paper size.  The tray can only hold up to 250 sheets (20lb paper).  Overfilling the tray may cause damage to the machine.

9. Reinstall the paper cassette.

10. Plug the power cord back in.

11. If the error message remains, open and close the front cover again.
