How do I clear black vertical lines that appear on the faxes I send and copies I make? scanning

Description of Solution 200000009147

Is the line appearing on the faxes you send and/or copies you make is a thin vertical line or a wide (over an inch) vertical line?

-         If the line is thin continue to STEP 1.

-         If the line is wide (over an inch) refer to solution: "When I make copies or send faxes the copy or the received fax has a wide vertical black line or is completely black. What can I do?"

1. Unplug the telephone line and then the power cord.  Be sure to do it in that order.

2. Lift up the Control Panel (the panel with the keypad) from the front. It will open approximately 3 inches wide.

-         A white roller, approximately nine inches long is located in the document path in the front of the machine. The scanner glass strip is located directly below the roller.

-         Pull the black tabs at each end of the roller forward. The release of the black tabs lifts the roller approximately 3/4 of an inch off the scanner glass strip.

-         Dampen a lint-free cloth with Isopropyl alcohol and wipe down the roller and glass in the front and back.

-         After cleaning, push the levers back to lock them back in place.

-         Close the Control Panel.

3. Plug the power cord back in and then the telephone line.  Wait for the LCD to return to date and time.

4. Test by making a copy of a blank sheet of white paper. To make a copy, place the blank sheet of paper in the ADF (automatic document feeder) located behind the control panel and then press the COPY key.

5. If the black vertical lines continue to appear on the copied document, repeat the cleaning procedure (STEP 2).

-         Be sure to unplug the telephone line and then the power cord.

-         You may have to repeat the cleaning process 3 or 4 times to eliminate all dirt or debris on the glass.

-         After each cleaning, be sure to plug in the power cord followed by the telephone line and then make a copy to test.
