When I send a fax, copy or scan the document is all black. What can I do?

Sending a black page can be caused by a static electricity build up that causes the scanner to malfunction. To determine the extent of the problem follow the procedure below.

 

1. Unplug your machine from the electrical outlet, wait 30 seconds and then plug it back in.

 

2. Test the machine by making a copy of a blank sheet of white paper. To make a copy, place the document in the ADF (automatic document feeder) located behind the control panel and press the COPY key.

 

-         If the copy comes out black, proceed to STEP 3.

 

-        If the copy comes out blank, the problem was created by a possible static problem. Listed below are some recommendations that may help prevent static electricity build-up in the household or office.

 

a.    Place anti-static on the floor in the area where the Brother machine is located.

 

b.    Periodic use of an anti-static spray on the floor and the area when the Brother machine is located

 

c.    Before touching the Brother machine, touch a metal object to discharge any static electricity build up in your body.

 

3. Unplug the telephone line and then the power cord.

 

NOTE: When you reconnect these lines later, connect the power cord first, and then the telephone line.

 

4. Lift the control panel cover.

 

5. Clean the white bar and glass cover under the white bar.  Moisten a small, clean, soft, lint-free cloth with isopropyl alcohol and carefully remove dirt from the glass cover and the white bar.  Close the control panel cover.

 

 

 

 

6. Connect the power cord first and then the telephone line.

 

7. Press the REPORTS key located on the control panel and then press 1 (Help List) on the dial pad.

 

8. Make a copy of the report that printed out. 

 

-        If the print image is good, the issue is resolved.

-         If the print image improved but is not good, repeat STEPS 3 through 8

 

-         If the image does not improve after repeating the cleaning procedure continue to WARRANTY AND SERVICE OPTIONS listed below:
