NOTE: The Brother machine uses the PC301 print cartridge. The ribbon refills you can use in this cartridge are:PC302RF = 2 ribbon refill pack or PC304RF = 4 ribbon refill pack.

1. Open the front cover by placing your hand into the document feeder and pulling it towards you.

2. Open the top cover by lifting up on the two blue levers on either side of the cover.

3. Lift the top cover and this will expose the print cartridge.

4. Remove the old print cartridge by grasping it by the handle and lifting it out of the machine.

5. Place the cartridge on a flat surface with the label closest to you and the indented arrow on the cartridge pointing away from you.

6. Turn the cartridge over.

7. The blue gear will be closest to you and on the right hand side.

8. You will notice that the ribbon is wound around one spool and has pulled of the other spool.

9. Remove the expired ribbon spool by holding the side of the ribbon cartridge and pushing up on the blue gear to release it from the cartridge.

10. Lift the expired ribbon spool on an angle so that the black gear releases from the cartridge and place the spool on the flat surface.

11. Remove the empty spool by holding the side of the ribbon cartridge and pushing up on the white gear to release it from the cartridge.

12. Lift the empty spool on an angle so that the black gear releases from the cartridge and place the spool on the flat surface.

13. Remove the gears from the ribbon spools.

14. Discard the expired ribbon and spools.

15. Remove the ribbon refill from either the PC302 or PC304 refill pack.

16. Remove the packaging and rubber band.

17. Place the ribbon refill on the flat surface with the gears.

18. Match the blue gear with the spool that has blue paint on the side.

19. Insert the blue gear in the spool and turn it until the gear aligns with the slots on the spool.

20. Install the white gear on the right side of the full roll.

21. Turn the gear until the gear aligns with the slots on the spool.

22. Install the black gears on the left side of the spools.

23. Turn the gears until they align with the slots on the spools.

24. Place the full roll in the cassette furthest away from you.

25. Turn the cassette over with the white label closest to you.

26. Turn the blue plastic gear on the side of the cartridge to remove any slack in the ribbon.

27. Place the cartridge in the unit with the indented arrow on the print cartridge pointing to the back of the unit.

28.  Close the top cover, pressing down on both sides until you hear them click into place.

29. Close the front cover.
