How do I adjust the various volume settings on my Brother machine?

Your Brother machine has four adjustable volume settings: Ring Volume, Beeper Volume, Speaker Volume, and Handset Volume. In addition, hearing-impaired users can amplify the Handset Volume.

CHANGING RING VOLUME

You can change your Brother machine#s Ring Volume by following these steps:

1. Press MENU, 1 (General Setup), 4 (Volume), 1 (Ring).

2. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to select #Low,# #Med.,# #High,# or #Off.#

3. Press OK.

4. Press STOP/EXIT.

You can also adjust the Ring Volume while your Brother machine is idle by following these steps:

1. Press the FAX key.

2. Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to adjust the Ring Volume to your liking.

- With each key press, the Brother machine rings so you can hear the current setting.

- Each key press changes the volume to the next setting, and the LCD displays the setting you are choosing.

- The new setting will remain until you change it again.

CHANGING BEEPER VOLUME

VOLUME AMPLIFY: OFF

- This default setting is appropriate if NONE of the users are hearing-impaired. During a conversation, users can press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to adjust the volume to LOW or HIGH. When the handset isreplaced, the volume setting will remain until you change it again.

VOLUME AMPLIFY: ON # TEMPORARY

- This setting is appropriate is SOME of the users are hearing-impaired.During a conversation, users can press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to adjust the volume to LOW, HIGH, or AMPLIFY. When the handset is replaced, the volume will return to the default setting of LOW.

VOLUME AMPLIFY: ON # PERMANENT

- This setting is appropriate if ALL of the users are hearing-impaired. During a conversation, users can press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to adjust the volume to LOW, HIGH, or AMPLIFY. When the handset is replaced, the volume will return to the default setting of AMPLIFY.

WARNING: Is it important that you do not choose PERMANENT unless all users are hearing-impaired. Otherwise, the default setting of AMPLIFY may damage some users# hearing.

CHANGING VOLUME AMPLIFY FOR THE HEARING-IMPAIRED

Please carefully read the VOLUME AMPLIFICATION FOR THE HEARING-IMPAIRED section above before you perform the following steps:

1. Press MENU, 1 (General Setup), 4 (Volume), 5 (Volume Amplify).

2. Do one of the following:

- If NONE of this machine#s users are hearing-impaired, press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to select #Volume Amplify: Off?# then go to STEP 4.

- If some or all of this machine#s users are hearing-impaired, press theUP OR DOWN ARROW key to select #Volume Amplify: On?# then press OK.

3. Do one of the following:

- If ALL of this machine#s users are hearing-impaired, press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to select #Permanent?#

- If SOME of this machine#s users are hearing-impaired, press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to select #Temporary?#

4. Press OK.

5. Press STOP/EXIT.
