Why does one inch piece of lead tape feed or cut off prior to every label that prints out? How can this tape waste be eliminated?

Description of Solution 200000016366

There is approximately one inch of space between the print head and the cutter blade within the PTouch label printer. The three layers of material that make up all PTouch labels must pass over this space in order to be sealed correctly and to feed correctly. Ordinarily a small piece of tape, 1 inch long, will first precede the printed label to ensure that this happens. This extra feed material cannot be eliminated. However, there are tape cutting options that can reduce the amount of wasted tape.

If using the PTouch label printer stand alone refer to page 62 of the user's guide. Each setting of the Auto Cut function consists of settings for three different cut methods: full cut (which is used to completely cut off the label), half cut (which is used to cut laminated tape without cutting the label backing, making it easier to remove the backing paper from the labels) and chain printing (where the last copy is not cut off, reducing the amount of tape that is wasted).

To change the Auto Cut setting on the label printer:

Hold down the CODE key and press the A.CUT (Feed&Cut) key. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key until the desired setting is displayed. Below is an explanation of the various settings.

1. Both full and half cuts - no chain printing

2. Full cuts only - no half cuts and no chain printing

3. Half cuts only - no full cuts and no chain printing

4. No full, half or chain printing

5. Full, half cuts and chain printing

6. Full cuts and chain printing - no half cuts

7. Half cuts and chain printing - no full cuts

8. Chain printing - neither full nor half cuts

Press the NEW BLOCK key to apply the setting. If using Auto Cut settings 5, 6, 7 or 8, when finished printing all your labels press the A.CUT (Feed&Cut) to feed and cut the last label printed.

If using the PTouch label printer with a Windows computer in the PTouch Editor program click File and Print. In the PTouch Quick Editor program click the drop down arrow next to the printer icon on the right and select Print Options. Place a check next to Chain Printing by clicking on it. Select Half Cut and Auto Cut if desired. Click Print. When finished printing all your labels press the A.CUT (Feed&Cut) to feed and cut the last label printed.

If using the PTouch label printer with a Macintosh computer in the PTouch Editor program click File and Print. In the PTouch Quick Editor program click the drop down arrow next to the top left Printer icon then select Print Options. For Macintosh OS X click Copies & Pages then select Tape Setting. Place a check next to Chain Printing by clicking on it. Select Multi Half Cut and Auto Tape Cut if desired. For Macintosh OS 9 place a check next to Chain Printing. Select Multi Half Cut and Auto Tape Cut if desired. Click Print. When finished printing all your labels press the A.CUT (Feed&Cut) to feed and cut the last label printed.
