When I make copies, the whole page is dull, faint, blurry or too light. What can I do?

Is the poor print quality occurring with copied documents ONLY or with copied documents AND documents printed from the computer?

 

-          If the print quality issue is with copies ONLY, go to STEP 1.

 

-          If the print quality issue is with copies AND documents printed from the computer,

 

-          For Windows Users, go to "How do I correct light or faint color on the whole page when printing from a Windows computer?"

 

-          For Macintosh Users, go to "How can I correct light or faint color on the whole page when printing from a Macintosh computer?"

 

If the colors on copied documents ONLY are too light, blurry or not as bright as expected follow the steps listed below:

 

1.    Verify the toner save mode is turned Off.  When you set the toner save feature to On, print appears lighter.

 

a.    Press MENU, 1 (General Setup), 6 (Ecology), 1 (Toner Save).

 

b.    Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to select OFF and then press OK.

 

c.    Press STOP/EXIT.

 

2.    Clean the scanner glass by following the steps listed below:

 

a.    Power the Brother machine Off using the power switch located on the right side of the machine.

 

b.    Lift the Document Cover (1).

 

c.    Clean the white plastic surface (2) located on the underside of the Document Cover and the scanner glass of the flat bed (3) with a soft lint-free cloth moistened with non-flammable glass cleaner.  Run your fingertip over the scanner glass of the flat bed to check for debris. If you feel debris, clean the entire glass area but concentrating in the area in which you felt the debris.

 

 

d.    In the ADF unit, clean the white plastic pressure bar (1) located to the left of the white plastic pad and the scanner glass strip (2) located to the left of the scanner glass with a soft lint-free cloth moistened with non-flammable glass cleaner.

 

 

e.    Close the Document Cover and power the machine back on using the power switch on the right side of the machine

 

3.    Print a test print by pressing MENU, 4 (printer), 2 (Print Options), 3 (Test Print) and press COLOR or BLACK START.

 

4.    Make a copy of the Test Print page.

 

a.    Place the Test Print page face up in the ADF (automatic document feeder).

 

b.    Press STOP/EXIT.

 

c.    Press the COPY mode key.

 

d.    Press the COLOR START key.

 

-          If the print quality of the copy is acceptable, the issue is resolved.

 

-          If the print quality of the copy is still unacceptable and your machine is within warranty, you can locate a Brother Authorized Service Center (ASC) in your area by clicking on the link below:
