Why does one inch piece of lead tape feed or cut off prior to every label that prints out? How can this tape waste be eliminated?

Description of Solution 200000017291

There is approximately one inch of space between the print head and the cutter blade within the PTouch label printer. The three layers of material that make up all PTouch labels must pass over this space in order to be sealed correctly and to feed correctly. Ordinarily a small piece of tape, 1 inch long, will first precede the printed label to ensure that this happens. This extra feed material cannot be eliminated. However, there are tape cutting options that can reduce the amount of wasted tape.

If using the PTouch label printer stand alone, refer to pages 53 and 54 of the user's guide. The Small Margin, Chain, and No Cut options greatlyreduce the amount of wasted tape by using smaller margins and eliminating blank sections cut between labels. Press the Label key to display the label menu. Select Cut Option using the up or down arrow keys. Use the left or right arrow keys to select the desired cut option.Press the OK or Enter key to apply the setting.

Small Margin: The PTouch label printer automatically cuts off a piece ofblank tape before printing the first label. The label will have a 0.16 inch (4 mm) left and right margin.

Chain: The PTouch label printer automatically cuts off a piece of blank tape before printing the first label. After the label is printed, it remains in the printer. The printer does not cut off the label until another label is printed or until the Feed&Cut (Preview) key is pressed while holding down the SHIFT key. The label will have a 0.16 inch (4 mm) left and right margin.

No Cut: Use this setting to print a strip of labels with no cuts in between. Pressing the Feed&Cut (Preview) key while holding down the SHIFT key will feed and cut the last label printed.

If using the PTouch label printer with a Windows computer, in the PTouchEditor program click File and Print. Place a check next to Chain Printing by clicking on it. If you would like each label to be individually cut, place a check next to Auto Cut. Click Print. When finished printing all your labels press the Feed&Cut (Preview) keywhile holding down the SHIFT key to feed and cut the last label printed.
