How do I clear message "Drum Error" from the display?

The message "Drum Error" will typically appear when the corona wires in the drum unit need to be cleaned.


1.    Clean corona wires inside the drum unit.


a.    Press down on the front cover release button and open the front cover by pulling it towards you.



b.    Locate the green handle of the drum unit.  Lift up and pull the green handle toward you sliding the drum unit out until it stops.  The toner cartridges are now visible and can be identified by their color coded handles.


NOTE: If you cannot pull the drum unit out, make sure that the front cover is fully open.



c.    Remove each toner cartridge one at a time by grasping the handle and pulling straight up and out of the drum.  Be sure to place them on a clean, flat surface with a piece of disposable paper underneath in case of spilled or scattered toner.



NOTE: If toner scatters on hands or clothing, immediately wipe it off or wash it with cold water.


d.    In the drum unit with the toner cartridges removed, locate and open all four white plastic corona wire covers (1) by lifting the tabs or latches located on the right and left side of the cover.



e.    Clean all four corona wires inside the drum unit by gently sliding the green tab (1) for each corona wire from left to right several times.  Be sure to return the tab to the home position.  If you do not return it to the home position, it could result in a vertical stripe down printed pages.



f.     After all four corona wires have been cleaned, close each corona wire cover.



g.    Reinstall each toner cartridge into the drum unit by holding the handle of the cartridge and sliding it into the drum unit. Be sure to match the toner cartridge colors to the same color label on the drum. Fold down the toner cartridge handle (A) for each toner once the cartridge is in place.



h.    Push the drum unit into the machine until it clicks into place and close the front cover.



2.    If the "Drum Error" message continues to appear, confirm if you are using a genuine Brother drum. 


Brother strongly recommends customers use only genuine Brother drum units and toner cartridges.  Each Brother laser printer is designed to work at pre-set temperatures that are matched exactly to each of our individual toner formulations.  Each individual component is designed to work with the other to ensure quality and reliability. 


Using non-genuine Brother supplies may affect the hardware performance, print quality and machine reliability.  The Brother limited warranty does not apply to any issue caused by the use of third party drum units, toner cartridges and toner.


If the message continues to appear, the drum unit should be replaced with a new DR110CL.  The drum is a consumable item that requires periodic replacement.
