My Brother machine has no power. What can I do?

When the Brother machine is idle for a certain period of time, it enters Sleep Mode.  In Sleep Mode, the machine acts as though it is turned off and its LCD will be blank.  If you press a key on the control panel, the machine receives a fax or computer data, or makes a copy, it will wake up.


To determine if your Brother machine is in Sleep Mode, press the STOP/EXIT key.


  • If your Brother machine's LCD lights up and displays the date and time, the issue is resolved.

  • If the LCD is blank go to STEP 1.


1. Verify the power cord is connected to the AC power outlet.  If the power cord is connected to a surge protector or power switch, remove the cord from that device and connect it directly to the outlet. This is for testing purposes. Removing such devices assists in determining if the blank LCD is related to the device or the Brother machine. 


NOTE: To protect your investment against power surges and lightning, Brother strongly recommends that you connect your machine to a surge protector.  In particular, we suggest that you use a surge protector that is compatible with both standard A.C. power cords and telephone line cords.  Surge protectors equipped with telephone jacks will assist in insulating your machine from any power surge that might travel through a telephone line.


2. Verify your Brother machine is powered on.


  • The ON/OFF key is located in the upper-right corner of your Brother machine's control panel.  Press the ON/OFF key.


  • When your Brother machine is off, the display will be blank.


3. If the LCD is still blank, do one of the following:


  • Connect the Brother machine to another, known-working outlet.


  • Verify the electrical outlet is working by plugging a known-working device—such as a lamp or radio—directly into the same outlet.  If that device does not work, the problem is related to the outlet or circuit. 


You may also need to check for tripped circuit breaker.  If a wall switch controls the outlet, verify that the switch is ON.


4. If the display still remains blank after testing in a known working electrical outlet and your machine is within warranty, you can locate a Brother Authorized Service Center (ASC) in your area by clicking on the link below: or contact Brother Customer Service by calling 1-877-Brother (1-877-276-8437) Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. 


If your machine is out of warranty, you can locate a Brother Authorized Service Center using the information listed above.
