Why do I receive an error message: Communication error between PC and P-touch: while printing to the ptouch label machine?

Description of Solution 200000022333

The P-touch Label driver is attempting bi-directional communication with the P-touch Label machine, but the PC port or the printer cable is not bi-directional capable.  Please try each of the following steps to resolve this issue.

Note:  For PT1230PC 2430PC, the mode switch in the rear is in E position.

For QL700 PT-P700, the PtLite light lamp is OFF.

1.    Ensure the P-touch Label is power on and the USB cable is plugged directly in between the PC and the P-touch Label machine.

2.    If the USB cable is connected to a USB hub, try connecting it directly to the PC.

3.    Try connecting to a different USB Serial port of the PC.

4.    If possible, exchange the USB Serial cable with a known working USB Serial cable.

5.    If possible, try testing the P-touch Label machine with another PC or do the following steps to disable bi-directional printing.

For Windows 2000 XP:

1.    6.  Open the Startup menu, and select Printers and Faxes.

2.    7.  Right-click the icon for your printer to open the contextual menu, and select Properties. The P-touch Label properties window opens.

3.    8.  Select the Ports tab, uncheck the Enable bidirectional support option, and then click the OK button.

a.    Vista: Under the Hardware and sound category, click the Printer link.

b.    Vista Classic: Double-click the Printers icon.

3.    8.  Right-click the P-touch Label icon to open the contextual menu, and then select Properties.   Next, select the Ports tab, uncheck the Enable bidirectional support option, and then click the OK button.

For Windows 7:

1.    Click the Windows icon on the bottom left corner, and select Devices and Printers.

2.    Right-click the icon for your printer to open the contextual menu, and select Printer Properties. The P-touch Label properties window opens.

3.    Select the Ports tab, uncheck the  Enable bidirectional support  option, and then click the OK button.

For Windows 8:

1.    Move your mouse cursor to the upper or lower right corner of your Desktop screen. When the menu bar appears, click Settings, Control Panel, and under Hardware and Sound, click View Devices and Printers.

2.    Right-click the icon for your PTouch Label printer to open the contextual menu, and select Printer Properties. The P-touch Label properties window opens.
