My printed documents are missing colors. What can I do?

Description of Solution 200000023036

1.  Print a Print Quality Check Sheet (PQCS).

a. Press the 4 color columns on the right side of the Touch screen.

b. Select TEST PRINT on the LCD.

c. Select PRINT QUALITY on the LCD.

d. Press COLOR START.

NOTE: The machine will generate the Print Quality Check Sheet (PQCS). On the PQCS each of the four colors is represented by a slanted square pattern made up of 96 individual blocks. The colors should appear in the following order from left to right: Black - Yellow - Cyan - Magenta.  Cyan is the light blue color and Magenta is the pinkish color.

2.  The LCD will display IS QUALITY OK?  1. YES    2. NO.  Do NOT press 1 or 2.  Press STOP/EXIT to return to the Date and Time display.

3.  Evaluate the Print Quality Check Sheet (PQCS) to determine the print quality issue.

The document below contains examples of Black Ink printing issues. A similar print issue can occur in each of the colors C/M/Y.

-      If all four colors printed with no missing blocks (example A), the issue is resolved.

-      If Black only has a print issue like B, C, D or E, go to solution - My printed documents are missing black. What can I do?

-      If Black AND any of the other colors has a print issue like B or C, go to solution - My printed documents are missing black. What can I do?

-      If Black AND any of the other colors has a print issue like D or E, go to STEP 4.

-      If a single color (C, Y, M) or combination of colors (not black) has an issue like B, C, D or E go to STEP 4.

4.  Verify your cartridge(s) is installed correctly by uninstalling and reinstalling the ink cartridge.

5.  If you are using non genuine Brother ink, you may want to consider using genuine Brother ink cartridges.  Use of inferior quality inks can affect the hardware performance and print quality.  The ink formulation in genuine Brother ink cartridges is made to prevent smearing and clogging of the print head.

6.  Do the following to clean the print head.

Note:  Cleaning the print head consumes ink.  Cleaning too often uses ink unnecessarily.

a. Press the 4 color columns on the right side of the Touch screen.

b. Select CLEANING on the LCD.

c. Select BLACK, COLOR or ALL depending on what you want to clean. The machine will clean the print head.

7.  Print another Print Quality Check Sheet (PQCS).

a. Press the 4 color columns on the right side of the Touch screen.

b. Select TEST PRINT on the LCD.

c. Select PRINT QUALITY on the LCD.

d. Press COLOR START. The machine will generate another PQCS.  Once printing is complete, the LCD will display: IS QUALITY OK? 1. YES 2. NO.  Do NOT press 1 or 2.

e. Press STOP/EXIT to return to the Date and Time display.

8.  Review the new PQCS and do the following based on the quality of the sheet:

a. If all four colors printed correctly and the print quality is acceptable, your issue is resolved.

b. If any of the colors (C, Y, M) only (not black) still has a print issue and there is NO improvement in the print quality of the 2nd PQCS compared to the 1st PQCS, we recommend you perform an additional cleaning process.  Click here for the necessary steps to clean the print head or the steps can be located in the Appendixes Section of the User's Guide under Troubleshooting and Routine Maintenance - Cleaning the Print Head.  The recommendation is to complete the print head cleaning steps at least four (4) times to ensure the head is completely clean.

c. If Black AND any of the other colors still has a print issue and there is NO improvement in the print quality of the 2nd PQCS compared to the 1st PQCS, go to STEP 9.

d. If there IS improvement in the print quality of the second PQCS compared to the first PQCS, we recommend you perform an additional cleaning process.
