The printed pages are light. How can I improve the print quality?

Description of Solution 200000023633

Brother strongly recommends that customers use only genuine Brother drum units and toner cartridges. Each Brother laser printer is designed to operate at pre-set thermal and mechanical conditions that are matched specifically to each of our individual toner formulations.  Each individual component is designed to work with the other to ensure quality and reliability. Using non-Brother supplies may affect the hardware performance, print quality and machine reliability. The Brother limited warranty does not apply to any problem that is caused by the use of third-party drum units, toner cartridges or toner.

If you have blank pages, refer to the solution - My printed documents are blank. What can I do?

1. Check whether Toner Save Mode is turned on by pressing MENU, 1 (General Setup), 3 (Ecology), 1 (Toner Save).

- If OFF is highlighted with an asterisk next to it, press STOP/EXIT and go to STEP 2.

- If ON is highlighted with an asterisk next to it, perform the following steps:

a. Press the DOWN ARROW key to highlight OFF on the LCD.

c. Press OK.

d. Press STOP/EXIT.

e. Test the machine by pressing MENU, 3 (Printer), 2 (Print Options), 3 (Test Print), START.

- If the print quality is still light, continue to STEP 2.

2. Check the drum life by pressing MENU, 6 (Machine Info), 7 (Parts Life), 1 (Drum).

- If the drum life remaining is not 0%, continue to STEP 3.

- If the drum life remaining is 0%, the drum unit will need to be replaced by a new DR620.

The drum is a consumable item that requires periodic replacement. The drum and toner warranty covers manufacturing defects for a period of 90 days from the date of purchase or the rated life of the consumable, whichever occurs first. If the drum life remaining is 0%, then the rated life has been exceeded and the item is no longer under warranty.

3.  Open the front cover and remove the drum and toner assembly.

NOTE: We recommend you place the toner and drum assembly on a piece of paper in case you accidentally spill or scatter toner.

4. Clean the corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the blue tab located at the top of the drum unit from side to side several times. Return the blue tab to the home position (1) before reinstalling the drum unit assembly.

5. With the drum removed from the machine, clean the laser glass with a dry, lint-free cloth. The laser glass is located inside the machine where the drum was installed. It is a piece of glass, about 1/2 inch wide and approximately 8 inches long, located on the top of the opening. Gently wipe the glass with a clean soft DRY cloth.

CAUTION: DO NOT use isopropyl alcohol or any liquid to clean the glass.

6. Reinstall the drum and toner assembly into the Brother machine and close the front cover.

7. Test the machine by pressing MENU, 3 (Printer), 2 (Print Options), 3 (Test Print), START.
