The machine does not turn on (no power), how can I correct this?

Description of Solution 200000023746

If your machine does not turn on when using batteries, follow the steps below to resolve the issue.

Please have the following items ready:

-         (4) New "AAA" alkaline batteries.  Please ensure the batteries are the same brand and have not reached their "Use by Date" or expiration date.

-         If you are using rechargeable batteries, replace them with New "AAA" alkaline batteries.  This machine was designed to use alkaline "AAA" batteries only.

Please verify:

-         You are viewing the LCD display in an area with suitable light and at the optimum viewing angle of 45 degrees.

-         The protective Mylar films have been removed from the faceplate. The Mylar films can obstruct the view of the display making it difficult to determine if the machine is ON or OFF.

NOTE: New face plates contain two clear, protective Mylar films. If the display appears to be foggy or there are bubbles, the protective films have not been removed.

1.    Verify the (2) Mylar protective films have been removed from the faceplate.

a.    Slide the front display cover toward the top edge of the machine.

b.    Remove the face plate from the top of the display.

c.    Remove the (2) Mylar protective films (front and back) from the faceplate.

-         For assistance putting the faceplate back on the machine, refer to solution "How do I change the faceplate?" .

d.    Press the POWER key and check if the machine turns ON.

-          If the issue persist and the machine does not turn ON, continue to STEP 2.

2.    Remove the cassette cover by pressing the indicted area in the below image.  Remove all the batteries from the machine if any are installed.

3.    With the machine positioned with the battery compartment at the bottom of the machine install the batteries into the machine:

  1. Insert the first two batteries in the bottom row with their "+" POSITIVE ends pointing toward the top edge of the machine.  Firmly push down on the batteries to ensure they are fully installed.

b.    Install the final two batteries in the top row with their "+" POSITIVE ends pointing toward the bottom edge of the machine.  Firmly push down on the batteries to ensure they are fully installed.

NOTE:  There is also an image embossed in the battery compartment of the correct way to install the batteries.

c.    Insert the two hooks at the bottom of the cassette cover into the slots on the machine and then close the cover securely until it snaps into place.

4.    Press the POWER key.

a.    Ensure you are viewing the LCD display in an area with suitable light and at the optimum viewing angle of 45 degrees.

-         This model's LCD display does not have a backlight.  Viewing the display may be affected by the viewing angle or insufficient lighting conditions.

b.    If the machine does not turn ON, replace ALL four "AAA" batteries with all new alkaline batteries, NOT just two or three batteries

-         Ensure the "Use by Date" on the batteries has not been reached.  If the "Use by Date" has been reached, the batteries are expired and will need to be replaced with new batteries that are not expired.

-         Ensure the batteries are of the same brand.

-         If the problem persists, your machine may require service.
