"Replace Drum (K)" will appear on the display of the Brother machine when the
black drum unit has reached the end of its life and needs to be replaced. The
machine will continue to print, however, if the drum unit is not replaced you
may have a print quality issue and the machine may eventually display a "Drum
Error" message. At that point the machine will stop printing until the drum unit
There are many
factors that determine the actual drum life, such as the temperature, humidity,
type of paper, type of toner used, and so on. Under ideal conditions, the
average drum life is estimated at approximately 15,000 pages. The actual number
of pages that your drum will print may be significantly less than this
estimate. Since we have no control over the many factors that determine
the actual drum life, we cannot guarantee a minimum number of pages that will be
printed by your drum.

temperatures that are matched exactly to each of our individual toner
formulations. Each individual component is designed to work with the other

the black drum unit is DR210CLBK. The drums can also be replaced as a set
(black, yellow, magenta, and cyan) - part number DR210CL.
1. Turn off the
power switch located on the right side of the machine. Fully open the top cover
by lifting up on the handle (1).
If the cover is not completely opened, the drum unit may be difficult or
impossible to remove from the machine.
2. Take out the
black drum unit and toner cartridge assembly.
3. Push down the
green-labeled lock lever (1) and take the toner cartridge out of the drum unit.
NOT put a toner cartridge into a fire. It could explode, resulting in injuries.
NOT use cleaning materials that contain ammonia, alcohol, any type of spray, or
any type of flammable substance to clean the outside or inside of the machine.
Doing this may cause a fire or electric shock.
NOT inhale the toner.
recommend that you place the drum and toner cartridge assembly on a clean, flat
surface with a sheet of disposable paper or cloth underneath it in case you
accidentally spill or scatter toner.

electrodes on the inside of the machine.
Handle the toner cartridge carefully. If the toner scatters on your hands or
clothes, wipe or wash it off with cold water at once.
avoid print problems, DO NOT touch the roller on the toner cartridge or on the
shinny drum surface.

does not spill out of the cartridge.

4. Unpack the new
drum unit and pull off the protective cover.

8. When you replace
a drum unit with a new one, you must manually reset the drum counter. If the
