Check the Application Settings and Adjust the Driver settings. Follow the instructions for your operating system.

Windows

Macintosh

Windows

a. Check the settings within the application you are using. It may have options to adjust the color. Certain programs have their own settings that could potentially override the machine settings. Please contact your application's vendor for assistance.

b. Open the Printers folder.  Refer to the following solution for instructions if needed - How do I open the Printers folder in Windows?

c. Right mouse click on the Brother machine and select Printing Preferences from the list.

d. Click on the Basic tab.  You may configure several settings, which may affect Print Quality:

e.   Media Type: To achieve the best print results, the media being printed on should be selected in the driver. The machine changes the way it prints depending on the selected media type.

f.   Print Quality: The quality selection lets you choose the print resolution.

-    Normal (600 x 600 dpi) - Recommended for ordinary printing.  Good print quality with reasonable print speeds.

-    Fine (2400 dpi class) - The finest print mode.  Use this mode to print precise images such as photographs.  Since the print data is much larger than in normal mode, processing time/data transfer time and printing time will be longer.

NOTE: The print speed will change depending on what print quality setting you choose. Higher print quality takes longer to print, while lower print quality takes less time to print.

g.   Settings:  When you select Auto or Color from the Color/Mono section, you may click the Settings button and adjust the color output settings.

h.   Color Mode:  The following options are available in Color Mode:

-    Normal: This is the default color mode.

-    Vivid: The color of all elements is adjusted to become a more vivid color.

-      Auto: The printer driver automatically selects the Color Mode type.

-    None: If you want to apply the color management settings of your application, choose this setting.  The printer driver will not adjust the color.

j.       Enhance Black Printing: If a black graphic cannot be printed correctly, choose this setting.

k.   Improve Thin Line: You can improve the image quality of thin lines.

l.    Improve Pattern Printing: Select this option if printed fills and patterns are different from the patterns and fills that you see on your computer.

m.   Settings:  If you want to change the color settings such as brightness, contrast, intensity, or saturation, click the Settings button to access more advanced settings.

-    Brightness: You can make your image lighter or darker.

-    Contrast:  You can make dark sections appear darker and light sections appear lighter.

-    Red: Increase or decrease the intensity of the Red in the image.

-      If the print quality is good, the issue is resolved.

-    If the colors are still dull, faint, light, blurry or not bright enough you may try the following steps:

i    Use the Postscript drivers which may do a better job at reproducing graphics and images, though the print speed is generally decreased.  You can install the BR-Script 3 driver from the Brother CD-ROM or download from the Brother web site http://solutions.brother.com

ii.   Try printing your document with various settings to achieve the desired output.  While these adjustments may make a significant difference in color matching the effect will be general and will change the output of everything being printed. Please keep in mind that an exact match may not be possible.

You should experiment with different combinations of the above features to choose the right solution.
