1. Click on the link below to download a test pattern and print the test pattern.

http://support.brother.com/g/s/id/pdf_pub/hl3000/rectangle25_a4_rgb.pdf

2. Examine the printed document.

- If a large, continuous black or colored vertical line passes through all of the colors, go to STEP 3.

- If a white vertical line passes through only one color, refer to the solution - How do I clear white vertical lines or streaks appearing on printed documents?

- If a black or colored line appears in only one color, go to STEP 8.

3. Clean the corona wire on the drum unit:

a. Power off the Brother machine.  The power switch is located on the lower right side.

b. Open the machine by pulling up on handle of the top cover until the top cover locks in place.

NOTE: Verify that the top cover is completely open. Failure to completely open the top cover of the machine before attempting to remove or install consumables may make the installation or removal of the items difficult or damage the machine.

c. Remove the drum unit and toner cartridge that matches the color of the line identified in STEP 2 from the machine.

- The drum unit and toner assembly can be removed by grasping the center of the drum and toner assembly and pulling it straight up.

- Place the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly on a piece of disposable paper or cloth to avoid spilling and scattering the toner.

d. Locate the green tab (Corona Wire Cleaner) on the drum assembly.

e. Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the green tab (Corona Wire Cleaner) from left to right and from right to left along the drum approximately 7 times. Return the green tab to the home position.

f. The corona wire cleaner should rest on the left hand side of the drum unit (as viewed with the drum unit facing away from you). The small triangle on the corona wire cleaner should be aligned with the small triangle on the gray portion of the drum unit, which is also on the left side of the drum.

g. When placing the Corona Wire Cleaner in the home position (left side of the drum), verify that it is pushed completely to the left side and aligned with the small triangle on the grey portion of the drum unit.

Correct Location                                                  Incorrect Location

NOTE: There should be no space between the left side of the drum casing and the Corona Wire Cleaner.

4. Return the drum unit and toner cartridge to the machine.

5. Slowly close the top cover of the machine. You should hear a click when the top cover is closed firmly.

6. Turn the machine on using the power switch located on the right hand side of the machine.

7. Once the machine reaches a "Ready" status, print the document that initially displayed the issue.

- If no lines appear on the document, the issue is resolved.

- If the problem continues, go to STEP 9.

8. Confirm that the toner cartridge(s) that matches the line color in STEP 2 is a genuine Brother toner cartridge.

Brother strongly recommends that customers use only genuine Brother drum units and/or toner cartridges. Each Brother laser printer is designed to work at pre-set temperatures that are matched exactly to each of our individual toner formulations.  Each individual component is designed to work with the other to ensure quality and reliability. Using non-Brother supplies may affect the hardware performance, print quality and machine reliability. The Brother limited warranty does not apply to any problem that is caused by the use of third party drum units, toner cartridges or toner.

- If the toner is not a genuine Brother toner cartridge, replacing the toner cartridge with a genuine Brother toner may resolve the issue.

- If the toner cartridge is a genuine Brother toner cartridge and the issue is still present, go to STEP 9.

9. If the problem continues and your machine is within warranty, you can locate a Brother Authorized Service Center (ASC) in your area by clicking on the link below:
