How do I clear black vertical lines when I make a copy, send a fax or scan an image into the PC?

Description of Solution 200000024338

1. Determine if the vertical lines appearing on the printed documents are related to a printing or scanning issue by printing a test page. Press MENU, 4 (Printer), 2 (Print Options), 3 (Test Print), and COLOR START on the control panel.

- If the vertical lines appear on the Test Print, refer to the solution - "How do I clear black, cyan, magenta, or yellow vertical lines or streaks appearing on printed documents?"

- If the vertical lines do NOT appear on the Test Print, continue to STEP 2.

2.   Locate the source of the line.

a. Place a document in the ADF and make a copy.

b. Lift the document cover. Place the PRINTED copy FACE UP on the large scanner glass. The document should be placed in the left rear corner of the scanner glass. The TOP of the document should be on the left side of the machine.

c. Imagine a line extending out from the line on the page into the small glass area on the left. The line on the printed document will point in the general area of the debris on the scanner glass. Clean this area thoroughly, using your fingertip to check for and remove debris. The cleaning should be completed by using a soft, lint free cloth moistened with a non-flammable glass cleaner or water.

CAUTION: Do not use excessive pressure on the glass.

d. After cleaning the glass surface, remove the printed copy from the scanner glass. Close the scanner cover.

e. Place the ORIGINAL document in the ADF.

f. Press the COPY mode key and then COLOR START.

g. If the line is still present, repeat STEPS b though f at least one additional time.

- If the line is still present after repeating the cleaning steps at least one additional time, go to STEP 3.

- If the line is no longer present, the issue is resolved.

3. Clean the ADF

a. Lift the document cover (1). Clean the white plastic surface under the document cover (2) and the scanner glass underneath it (3) with a soft lint free cloth moistened with a non-flammable glass cleaner or water.

CAUTION: Do not use excessive pressure on the glass.

b. Clean the white pressure bar (1) and the small scanner glass (2) to the left of the larger scanner glass. Run your fingertip over the scanner glass to check for debris. Clean the entire glass area, concentrating on the areas in which you see or feel debris.

CAUTION: Do not use excessive pressure on the glass.

c. Clean the white plastic pressure bar (1) located to the left of the white plastic pad.

d. Lower the document cover and make a copy from the ADF using the original document.  Press the COPY mode key and then COLOR START.

e. If the line is still present, repeat STEPS a though d at least one additional time.
