Why does my Brother machine makes a noise when printing or scanning?

1. Verify the Brother machine is plugged directly into a power outlet.

 

·          If the machine is plugged into a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply), make sure the Brother machine is NOT plugged into an outlet on the UPS that has battery backup.  If it is, remove the Brother machine from the UPS and plug it directly into a power outlet.   

2. Is there an error message displayed on the LCD?

 

·         If there is an error message, refer to the appropriate solution for that error message.

 

·         If there is not an error message, continue to STEP 3.

 

3. Print a test page by pressing MENU, 3 (Printer), 2 (Print Options), 3 (Test Print), START.

 

a.    Can the noise be heard while the machine prints?

 

·         If the noise cannot be heard, go to STEP 4.

 

·         If the noise can be heard, go to STEP 6.

 

4. Test the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder):

 

a.    Load three (3) sheets of paper into the ADF.

 

b.    Press the START key.

 

c.    Can the noise be heard while the paper is feeding through the ADF?

 

·         If yes, go to STEP 4d.

 

·         If no, go to STEP 5.

 

d.    Check the following areas for loose or stuck object or paper  and remove any that are found:

 

i.        Inside the ADF; Open the ADF cover by lifting it from the right side and swinging it to the left.

 

ii.       Check the rollers located beneath the document input tray.

 

iii.     Check under the document cover on the left side.

 

e.    Return to STEP 4a.

 

5. Test the flatbed scanner:

 

a.    Set the printed test page face down on the flatbed scanner glass.

 

b.    Press the START key.

 

c.    Can the noise be heard while the page is being scanned?

 

·         If the noise can be heard, go to STEP 6.

 

·         If the noise cannot be heard, the issue is resolved.

 

6. If the problem continues and your machine is within warranty, you can locate a Brother Authorized Service Center (ASC) in your area by clicking on the link below:
