2. Verify the Wireless Router or Access Point is setup for DHCP. This setting is required in order for the router or access point to broadcast a valid IP address to the device. Please refer to the user guide of your wireless router or access point for additional information.

3. If the Brother machine was previously configured for wireless connection, continue to STEP 4.  If the machine was not configured for wireless connection, continue to STEP 5.

-       No:  There are several factors that can prevent the machine from successfully joining the network.  Continue to STEP T1 of the Troubleshooting section.  If you have already completed the Troubleshooting Section and the machine is still not connected to the Wireless Network, contact your router manufacturer or Network Admin for further support.

NOTE:  An invalid IP address would be all zeroes, an APIPA address (169.254.x.x) on an Infrastructure network, or an address within an incorrect range for your network.

TROUBLESHOOTING:

T1. Cycle the power on the Router or Access Point for about 15 seconds.

WARNING:  Cycling the power on the access point will temporarily disconnect any devices that are connected.  If you have VOIP, any current calls will be disconnected.

Once the access point powers back on, wait about a minute and print another Network Configuration Report to determine if the Brother machine has acquired a valid IP address from the router.

After printing the report, continue to STEP T2 of the Troubleshooting section.

T3. If you are unsure of your wireless network's security settings, please refer to one of the following solutions for assistance.

-      How do I find the Wireless Security Information in Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8 or 8.1?

-      How do I find the Wireless Security Information on my Wireless Macintosh OSX computer?

If you are using a mobile device or you still cannot locate your Wireless Security Settings, please contact your router manufacturer or Internet Service Provider for assistance.  To locate contact information for common router manufacturers, visit:  http://www.brother-usa.com/support/wireless/wireless_router_information.htm

T4. After locating your Wireless Security information, have you been entering the correct Security Key?

-       Yes: Contact your router manufacturer or Network Admin to verify the following:

-      Network Security Settings requested in STEP 1 of the Wireless Configuration section.  We recommend you verify the settings from the actual Router Configuration Interface.  Do not simply rely on information printed on the Router or Access Point.

-      Verify that DHCP is assigned on the access point so that it will automatically assign an IP address to the machine.

-      Verify that the Router is not configured to use access security such as MAC Address filtering.

-      Verify that the Router is not configured to use WPA2-PSK with TKIP.  The Brother machine does not support this combination of Authentication/Encryption, however it does support WPA2-PSK with AES.

-       No: Attempt to join the machine to the wireless network, using the correct settings.  Refer back to STEP 3 of the Wireless Configuration section and try again.  Make sure you are ENTERING TEXT correctly into the machine.

ENTERING TEXT:

1.  You can use the LEFT OR RIGHT arrow key to move the cursor left or right.

2.  Most number keys have three or four letters printed on them. By pressing the correct number key repeatedly, you can access the character you want.  The characters appear in this order: lower case, upper case, and then numbers.

3.  Inserting spaces:  To enter a space in a name, press the RIGHT ARROW Key twice between characters.

4.  Making corrections:  If you entered a letter incorrectly and want to change it, press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW Key to move the cursor under the incorrect character, press CLEAR/BACK. Re-enter the correct character. You can also back up and insert letters.

5.  Repeating letters:  If you need to enter a letter that is on the same key as the letter before, press the RIGHT ARROW Key to move the cursor to the right before you press the key again.

6.  Special characters and symbols:  Press * (Asterisk), # (Pound), or 0, key repeatedly, until the character you want appears. The symbols and characters that appear will depend on your menu selection.
