How do I install my Brother machine using Windows Update drivers in Windows 7?

During the initial installation of Windows 7, not all available printer drivers are listed. Clicking the Windows Update button will cause the operating system to query Microsoft's servers and download the remaining available drivers. See below to learn how to update the printer list using Windows Update.

NOTE: For USB and Parallel users, connect the interface cable to the Brother device while your PC is connected to the internet and the operating system will automatically download and install the drivers for your device.


1.  Click Start => Devices and Printers to open the Printers Folder.


2.  Click Add A Printer.


3.  When the Add Printer Wizard appears, click on Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer.




4. Select your Brother printer from the list and click NEXT.




5.  When the Install Printer Driver screen appears, click Windows Update. This will take a few minutes to contact the Microsoft server and download the additional drivers.




6. Once the drivers list has been updated, please select your Brother printer from the list and click NEXT.




7. Follow the remaining prompts to complete the installation.


8. Click NEXT to accept the default name of the printer.




9.  You will be asked if you want to print a test page and set the printer as the default printer. Select YES or NO.  Click FINISH.


If you don't have an internet connection at home but you do have a laptop with Wi-Fi capability, you can visit a free Wi-Fi hotspot and perform the Windows 7 update and download the driver.
