How do I print in monochrome mode (black and white) using only black toner from Windows or Macintosh OS X?

For Windows Users


For Macintosh Users






1.    Open the Printers folder. Refer to the following solution for instructions if needed - How do I open the Printers folder in Windows?


2.    Right-click on the Brother machine and select Printing Preferences.


3.    From the Color/Mono dropdown choose Mono.



4.    Click Apply => OK.  Subsequent print jobs will now print black and white.




Macintosh Users:


1.    Open a document to print.


2.    Click File => Print.


3.    If Printer and Presets are the only options on the Print window, follow the steps below for your operating system.


Macintosh OS 10.7 - 10.10: Click the Show Details button to the bottom to expand the Print window.


Macintosh OS 10.5 - 10.6: Click the blue down arrow to the right of the printer name to expand the Print window.


4.    Click on the drop menu (Copies & Pages or the name of the application) and click on Print Settings.


5.    Next to Color/Mono select Mono.



6.    After you change any settings, if you want to save the current settings, you will need to save it as a preset.  Refer to the following solution for instructions if needed - How do I save the printer driver settings as a preset in Macintosh OS X? 


7.    Click Print.  Your document will print in black and white.
