The printer has no power. What can I do?

Description of Solution 200000028040

1. The Brother printer has an ON/OFF switch located on the right side of the printer. Verify the printer is powered ON.

- If the power switch was already on, continue to STEP 2.

- If the power switch was off and the machine is functioning properly now, discontinue troubleshooting.

2. Verify the power cord is connected into the power outlet and securely into the back of the printer. If the power cord is connected to a surge protector or power strip, disconnect the cord from that device and connect it directly to the outlet. Removing the device assists in determining if the problem is related to the device.

NOTE: To protect your investment against power surges and lightning, Brother strongly recommends that you connect your machine to a surge protector. In particular we suggest that you use a surge protector that is compatible with standard AC power cords.

- If the machine still has no power, continue to STEP 3.

- If the machine is functioning properly now, discontinue troubleshooting.

3. Turn the power switch off, wait three seconds. While looking at the Toner, Drum, Error, and Ready LEDs turn the power switch back on.

Did all the LEDs come on for a moment and then go off?

- If yes, continue to STEP 4.

- If no, go to STEP 5.

4. It appears as though the latest firmware update did not load properly onto the printer. This occurs as a result of interrupting a firmware update.  Unfortunately, this issue cannot be resolved over the phone or online.  This issue can be quickly resolved by an Authorized Service Center. The repair cost for this issue will be covered by Brother.

5. If the printer still has no power, test the electrical outlet with another device (a working lamp, radio, etc.). If that device does not work, the problem is related to the outlet or circuit. You may also need to check for a tripped circuit breaker. If a wall switch controls the outlet verify that the switch is ON. Another option would be to connect the Brother printer to a verified working outlet (tested with a working lamp, radio, etc).

6.
