How do I install a new toner cartridge? How do I replace the toner cartridge?

Description of Solution 200000028052

Brother strongly recommends that customers use only genuine Brother drum units and/or toner cartridges. Each Brother laser printer is designed to work at pre-set temperatures that are matched exactly to each of our individual toner formulations. Each individual component is designed to work with the other to ensure quality and reliability. Using non-Brother supplies may affect the hardware performance, print quality, and machine reliability. The Brother limited warranty does not apply to any problem that is caused by the use of third party drum units, toner cartridges, or toner.

NOTE: Installing a non-Brother toner cartridge or refilled toner cartridge will not clear the Toner LED on the machine. A new genuine Brother toner cartridge must be installed to clear the Toner LED.

Below are the yields of the toner cartridges:

TN starter toner cartridge: approximately 700 pages

TN420 standard yield toner cartridge: approximately 1,200

TN450 high yield toner cartridge: approximately 2,600

*Pages refers to A4 or Letter-size single-sided pages. Approximate cartridge yield is declared in accordance with ISO/IEC 19752.

Follow the steps below to install a new toner cartridge.

1. Make sure the machine is powered on. Leave the machine on for at least 10 minutes to cool down.

2. Open the front cover.

3. Take out the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly by pulling on the handle in the middle of the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly.

NOTE: We recommend that you place the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly on a piece of paper in case you accidentally spill or scatter toner.

4. Push down the green lock lever on the left side of the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly and then lift the toner cartridge out of the drum unit.

NOTE: Handle the toner cartridge carefully. If toner scatters on your hands or clothes, immediately wash it off with cold water.

5. Unpack the new toner cartridge. Hold the toner cartridge level with both hands and gently shake it from side to side several times to spread the toner evenly inside the cartridge.

6. Pull off the protective cover.

7. Put the new toner cartridge firmly into the drum unit until you hear it lock into place. If you put it in properly, the green lock lever will lift automatically.

8. Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the green tab from left to right several times. Return the tab to the home position, otherwise, printed pages may have a vertical line.

9. Put the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly back into the machine. Close the front cover.

Do not turn off the machine power switch or open the front cover until the Ready LED lights up.
