How do I clear black, cyan, magenta, or yellow vertical lines or streaks appearing on printed documents?

Description of Solution 200000028497

Black, cyan, magenta, or yellow vertical lines or streaks can be caused by a dirty corona wire, a toner cartridge, or the drum unit.

To identify if a corona wire, toner cartridge, or the drum unit could be causing the issue, follow the steps below.

1. Click on the link below to download a test pattern and print the test pattern.

http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public_s/id/pdf_pub/hl3000/rectangle25_a4_rgb.pdf

2. Review the two pages that are printed to identify the color causing the problem.

- If the vertical line is from the top to bottom on both pages that are printed, go to STEP 3 to clean the corona wire for the color line you see on the test pattern.

- If the vertical line is only seen in 1 of the 4 colored rectangles that are printed, replace the toner cartridge of the color you see the line in.

3. Cleaning the corona wire.

a. Press down on the front cover release button and open the front cover by pulling it towards you.

b. Hold the green handle of the drum unit. Pull the drum unit out until it stops.

NOTE: If you cannot pull the drum unit out, make sure that the front cover is fully open.

c. Hold the handle of the toner cartridge and slightly push it toward the machine to unlock it. Then pull it out of the drum unit. Repeat this for all the toner cartridges.

NOTE: We recommend you place the toner cartridge(s) on a clean, flat surface with a piece of paper underneath it in case you accidentally spill or scatter toner.

Brother strongly recommends that customers use only genuine Brother drum units and/or toner cartridges. Each Brother laser printer is designed to work at pre-set temperatures that are matched exactly to each of our individual toner formulations.  Each individual component is designed to work with the other to ensure quality and reliability. Using non-Brother supplies may affect the hardware performance, print quality, and machine reliability. The Brother limited warranty does not apply to any problem that is caused by the use of third party drum units, toner cartridges, or toner.

d. Push to release the latches of the corona wire cover (1), and then open the cover. Open the gray plastic corona wire cover by lifting the tabs or latches located on the right and left sides of the cover.

e. Clean the corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the green tab from left to right several times.

NOTE: Be sure to return the tab to the home position. If you do not, printed pages may have a vertical stripe.

f. Close the corona wire cover.

g. Repeat STEPS d through f to clean each of the remaining three corona wires.

h. Reinstall the toner cartridges. Shake the toner cartridge side to side before reinstalling. Hold the handle of the toner cartridge and slide the toner cartridge into the drum unit. Make sure that you match the toner cartridge color to the same color label on the drum. Fold down the toner cartridge handle once the toner cartridge is in place. Repeat this for all the toner cartridges.

i. Push the drum unit into the printer until it clicks into place.

j. Close the front cover of the machine.

4. Print the test pattern from STEP 1 again or print a document from your computer.

- If the document prints fine, the issue is resolved.

- If the problem continues, replace the drum unit (part number: DR310CL). Brother strongly recommends that customers use only genuine Brother drum units and/or toner cartridges.
