Description of Problem 100000022487

Why is one inch piece of lead tape feed prior to every label that prints out and can this tape waste be eliminated?

Description of Solution 200000028621

Due to the design and construction of the tape mechanism, it is essential to feed a certain amount of tape through the machine before the first label (for more detail, see end of document).  However, by printing labels consecutively, subsequent labels can be printed without this excess tape.

1. Press the Label key to display the "Label" menu.

2. Press the Up or Down arrow key until the setting for the "Cut Option" is highlighted on the display.

3. Press the Left or the Right arrow key until "Chain" is highlighted.

4. Press the Enter or the OK key to apply the setting.

Note: After the label is printed in "Chain", it remains in the machine.  Clear the text on display and create another label, do NOT clear the "Format", just the text.  Continue creating and printing labels.  After the last label printed, press the Shift and Feed & Cut keys.  Press the Up or Down arrow key until the setting "Feed & Cut" is highlighted on the display, press the Enter key.

There is approximately one inch of space between the print head and the cutter blade within the P-touch label printer.  The three layers of material that make up all P-touch labels must pass over this space in order to be sealed correctly, see below illustrations.
