The machine does not turn on (no power) when using batteries, how can I correct this?

Description of Solution 200000028636

If your machine does not turn on when using batteries, follow the steps below to resolve the issue.

Please have the following items ready:

-         (6) New "AA" alkaline batteries.  Please ensure the batteries are the same brand and have not reached their "Use by Date" or expiration date.

Please ensure:

-         The protective Mylar film has been removed from the LCD display. The Mylar film can obstruct the view of the display making it difficult to determine if the machine is ON or OFF.

1.    Verify the Mylar protective film has been removed from the LCD display.  The film may obstruct the view, causing difficulty in distinguishing if the machine is ON or OFF.

NOTE: If the display appears to be foggy or there are bubbles, the protective film has not been removed.

2.    Turn the machine over with the rear side facing up.

3.    Remove the battery compartment cover and remove all the batteries from the machine if any are installed.

4.    With the machine positioned with the battery compartment at the bottom of the machine install the batteries into the machine:

  1. Insert the first two batteries in the top row with their "+" POSITIVE ends pointing toward the right edge of the machine

  2. Next, insert two batteries in the middle row with their "+" POSITIVE ends pointing toward the left edge of the machine.

c.    Install the final two batteries in the bottom row with their "+" POSITIVE ends pointing toward the right edge of the machine.

NOTE:  There is also an image imprinted in and above the battery compartment of the correct way to install the batteries.

d.    Once the batteries are installed, re- install and close the battery compartment cover.

5.    Verify the positioning and the viewing angle of the machine.

a.    Ensure the machine is sitting on a flat surface.

b.    Ensure you are viewing the LCD display in an area with suitable light and at the optimum viewing angle of 45 degrees.

-         This model's LCD display does not have a backlight.  Viewing the display may be affected by the viewing angle or insufficient lighting conditions.

6.    Press the POWER key to turn the machine ON.

a.    If the machine does not turn ON, replace ALL six "AA" batteries with all new alkaline batteries, NOT just two or three batteries

-         Ensure the "Use by Date" on the batteries has not been reached.  If the "Use by Date" has been reached, the batteries are expired and will need to be replaced with new batteries that are not expired.

-         Ensure the batteries are of the same brand.

-         If the problem persists, your machine may require service.

The machine has a two year limited exchange warranty. If the machine is in warranty, call Brother Customer Service at 1-877-Brother (1-877-276-8437) for warranty options.
