How do I install the Brother MFL-Pro suite from the CD in Windows 2000, XP, Vista, or 7 using the Wireless Network interface?

Description of Solution 200000028700

1.  Before installing the Software, the machine must be powered on and connected to the wireless network.  For instructions on how to connect to the wireless network, refer to one of the following solutions:

2. Ensure that you are logged on to your computer with Administrator rights.  If you are using a personal firewall (other than Windows Firewall), anti-spyware, or antivirus applications, temporarily disable them.

3. Put the supplied CD-ROM for your Operating System into your CD-ROM drive. If the model name screen appears, choose your machine. If the language screen appears, choose your language.

NOTE:  If the CD does not automatically run, browse to (My) Computer and then double click on the Brother MFL-PRO Suite icon to run the CD.

4. The CD-ROM main menu will appear.  Click Initial Installation.

5. Click Install MFL-Pro Suite.

6.  After reading and accepting the ScanSoft PaperPort SE License Agreement, click YES if you agree to the terms.   The installation of PaperPort SE will automatically start and is followed by the installation of MFL-Pro Suite.

7. When the Brother MFL-Pro Suite Software License Agreement window appears, click YES if you agree to the Software License Agreement.

8. Choose Wireless Network Connection and click NEXT.

9. Place a check in Wireless Settings Checked and Confirmed, and click NEXT.

10.  For Windows XP SP2 or greater, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 Windows Firewall Users:  If a firewall is detected, choose Change The Firewall Port Settings To Enable Network Connection And Continue With The Installation (Recommended).  You may have to click NEXT to continue.

NOTE:  If you are using a firewall other than Windows Firewall or Windows Firewall is off, you may receive a message warning you that the firewall could block network communication.  See the instructions provided with your firewall software for information on how to add the following network ports:

  • For network scanning, add UDP port 54925.

  • For network pc-fax receiving on supported models, add UDP port 54926.

  • If you still have trouble with your network connection, add UDP port 137.

11a.  If the Brother machine is the only network-printing device found on the network the installation of the Brother drivers will automatically start.  If there is more than one network-printing device found you will be asked to select your model machine from the list and then click NEXT

11b. If the Brother machine is not yet configured for use on your network, a window will appear stating: Find unconfigured Device.  Click OK.  The Configure IP Address window will appear.  Choose SPECIFY YOUR MACHINE BY ADDRESS (ADVANCED USERS), and enter the IP address information appropriate to your network, then click NEXT.  If you are not certain what information to enter you should contact your network administrator.

12. The installation screens will appear one after another.  Please wait. It will take a few moments for all the screens to appear.  Do not try to cancel any of the screens during this installation.

NOTE: If asked: Would you like to install this device software?  Click INSTALL.

13. When the On-Line Registration screen is displayed, make your selection and follow the on-screen instructions.  Once you have completed the registration click NEXT to continue the installation.

14. Select Yes, I Want To Restart My Computer Now and click FINISH.   The computer will restart.

NOTE:  After restarting the computer you must be logged on with Administrator rights.

15.  Once the computer restarts, you will be prompted to select an option for firmware update notification.  Make your selection and click OK.

NOTE: Internet access is required for any firmware upgrades.
