The machine uses a drum unit
to create print images on paper. If the Drum LED (yellow) is lit solid or the
status monitor displays the message "Replace Drum:, the drum unit is at the end
of its life and should be replaced with a new drum unit (DR-420).
The drum unit is a consumable
item, and it is necessary to replace it periodically. There are many factors
that affect the actual life of the drum, such as temperature, humidity, type of
paper, and how much toner you use for the number of pages per print job.
The estimated drum life is approximately 12,000 pages A4 or Letter size
single-sided pages at 1 page per job. Because of the many factors affecting the
actual drum life, we cannot guarantee a minimum number of pages to print from
Brother strongly recommends that customers use only genuine
Brother drum units and/or toner cartridges. Each Brother laser printer is
designed to work at pre-set temperatures that are matched exactly to each of our
individual toner formulations. Each individual component is designed to
work with the other to ensure quality and reliability. Using non-Brother
supplies may affect the hardware performance, print quality, and machine
reliability. The Brother limited warranty does not apply to any problem that is
caused by the use of third party drum units, toner cartridges, or toner.

- If you installed a
replacement drum and the Drum LED (yellow) NEVER went out or the status monitor
NEVER stopped displaying the message REPLACE DRUM, do the following to verify
the drum counter was reset:
1. Open the
Take out the drum unit and toner
cartridge assembly and reinstall it into the machine. DO NOT close
the front cover.
Press and hold down the GO button
for about 4 seconds until all of the LEDs light up. Once all four LEDs are
lit, release the GO button.

5. Confirm the drum LED is
If the Drum LED is still lit or the
message continues to appear, repeat STEPS 1-5 to
confirm the drum counter was reset properly.

lit or the message continues to appear after repeating Steps 1 � 5 and your
