How do I clear the message "Replace Parts Drum"?

Description of Solution 200000029231

Brother strongly recommends that customers use only genuine Brother drum units and/or toner cartridges. Each Brother laser printer is designed to work at pre-set temperatures that are matched exactly to each of our individual toner formulations.  Each individual component is designed to work with the other to ensure quality and reliability. Using non-Brother supplies may affect the hardware performance, print quality and machine reliability. The Brother limited warranty does not apply to any problem that is caused by the use of third party drum units, toner cartridges or toner.

If the machine displays the message "Replace Parts Drum", the drum unit has reached the end of its life and a new drum unit will need to be installed. The yield of a drum unit is approx. 25,000 pages (A4/Letter single sided pages). Please purchase and install a new Drum unit.

-DO NOT touch the surface of the drum unit. If you touch it, it could degrade the print quality.

- Damage caused by incorrect handling of the drum unit may void your warranty.

1. Press the front cover release button and then open the front cover.

2. Hold the green handle of the drum unit. Pull the drum unit out until it stops.

3. Turn the green lock lever (1) at the left of the machine counterclockwise to the release position. Holding the green handles of the drum unit, lift the front of the drum unit and remove it from the machine.

NOTE: If you cannot pull the drum unit out, make sure that the front cover is fully open.

4. Hold the handle of the toner cartridge and slightly push it toward the machine to unlock it. Then pull it out of the drum unit. Repeat this for all the toner cartridges.

5. Unpack the new drum unit and remove the protective cover.

6. Hold the handle of the toner cartridge and slide the toner cartridge into the drum unit then slightly pull it toward you until you hear it click into place. Make sure that you match the toner cartridge color to the same color on the drum unit. Repeat this for all the other cartridges.

7. Make sure the green lock lever is in the release position. Match the guide ends of the drum unit to the small black arrows on both sides of the machine, and then gently slide the drum unit into the machine until it stops at the green lock lever.

8. Turn the green lock lever clockwise to the lock position.

9. Push the drum unit in until it stops.

10. Close the front cover of the machine.

11. When you replace the drum unit with a new one, you need to reset drum unit counter by completing steps below:

a. Press  MENU, 8 (Machine Info), 4 (Reset Parts Life).

b. Press the UP or DOWN ARROW key to select Drum. Press Ok.

c. Press 1 to reset the drum unit counter.
