Why is my Brother machine making a noise when printing?

Description of Solution 200000030590

1. Verify that the Brother machine is plugged directly in a power outlet.

- If the machine is plugged into a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply), make sure the Brother machine is NOT plugged into an outlet on the UPS that has battery backup.

2. Do the LEDs (lights) indicate an error?

- If there is an error indication, refer to the appropriate solution for that error message.

- If there is not an error message, continue to the next step.

3.  Open the Front cover and remove the drum and toner.

4. Remove the toner cartridge from the drum by holding down the lock lever (blue tab) on the right side of the drum unit and lift the toner out.

NOTE: Handle the toner cartridge carefully. If toner scatters on your hands or clothes, immediately wash it off with cold water.

5. Close the front cover with the toner removed.

6. Ask the customer if the noise can be heard while the machine warms up?

- If the noise cannot be heard, open the front cover and place the toner in the drum and the drum unit in the machine. Close the front cover and continue to STEP 7.

- If the noise can be heard, go to STEP 8.

7. Print the printer settings page by pressing the GO button 3 times.

Can the noise be heard while the machine prints?

- If the noise cannot be heard, repeat STEP 7 up to 3 times.

- If the noise can be heard, go to STEP 8.

8. If the machine still makes noise, replace the toner with a new Brother TN620 or TN650 toner following the instructions below:

a. Press the front cover release button on the top of the printer and pull down the front cover.

 b. Lift the drum unit slightly and pull it out. Place the drum unit on a piece of disposable paper or cloth to avoid spilling and scattering the toner.

 c. Remove the toner cartridge from the drum by holding down the lock lever (blue tab) on the right side of the drum unit and lift the toner out.

NOTE: Handle the toner cartridge carefully. If toner scatters on your hands or clothes, immediately wash it off with cold water.

d. Unpack the new toner cartridge.

e. Gently rock the toner cartridge from side to side five or six times to distribute the toner evenly inside the cartridge.

  f. Remove the yellow protective cover from the toner cartridge.

 g. Place the toner cartridge into the drum (be sure it clicks into place). If you put the cartridge in properly, the blue lock lever will lift automatically

h. Clean  the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the blue tab on the top of the cartridge from right to left several times. Return the blue tab to the home position (1) until it clicks into place. If you do not return the blue tab to the home position, printed pages will have a stripe down the page.

i. Reseat the drum unit into the printer pressing it in securely.

j. Close the front cover making sure it latches on both sides.

k. Print the printer settings page by pressing the GO button 3 times.
