How do I clear a "Paper Jam [Rear]" message from the display?

1. Are you printing from the Manual Feed Slot?

 

-      If YES, go to STEP 2.

 

-      If NO, go to STEP 5.

 

2. The Manual Feed Slot can only feed one sheet of paper at a time. Confirm only one sheet is being loaded at a time.

3. Are you printing a multi-page document using the Manual Feed Slot?

 

-      If YES, go to STEP 4.

 

-      If NO, go to STEP 5.

 

4. When printing multi-page documents using the Manual Feed Slot, you must not load a second sheet into the Manual Feed Slot until prompted to do so by the LCD.  Complete the following steps to clear any paper jams and test the machine before reloading the Manual Feed Slot.

 

5. Confirm the specific error message on the LCD.

 

-      If the error appearing on the LCD is PAPER JAM [REAR], unplug the machine from the power outlet and go to STEP 11.

 

-      If the error appearing on the LCD is PAPER JAM [FRONT] or PAPER JAM [FRONT, REAR], unplug the machine from the power outlet and go to STEP 6.

 

-      If any other error message appears, search for the specific error and follow the solution for the error message.

 

6. Pull paper tray #1 (1) and tray #2 (2) completely out of the machine.

 

 

 

 

7. Pull out any jammed paper (1).

 

 

 

 

8. Look inside the machine where the paper trays were installed and lift the flap inside the upper tray slot.  Remove any jammed paper.

 

 

 

 

 

9. Reset the paper in the trays one tray at a time.

 

  1. Open the paper tray cover and remove the paper from the paper tray.

 

  1. With both hands, gently press and slide the paper length guide (1) and then the paper side guides (2) to fit the paper size you are using.

 

 

Note: Tray #1 is shown in the image above.

 

  1. Make sure the triangular marks (3 in the image above) on the paper length guide (1) and paper side guides (2) line up with the mark for the paper size you are using.

 

  1. Fan the stack of paper well to avoid paper jams and misfeeds.

 

  1. Gently put the paper back into the paper tray print side down and top edge in first.

 

  1. Make sure the paper you are using meets the paper tray specifications listed below.  If you the paper you are using does not meet the paper tray specifications, you will need to replace the paper with the correct paper to avoid jams in the future.

 

-Plain Copy Paper (17 to 24lb): Up to 250 sheets

-Ink Jet Paper (17 to 53lb): Up to 20 sheets

-Glossy Paper (up to 58 lb): Up to 20 sheets

 

  1. Make sure the paper is flat in the tray.

 

Note: Tray #1 is shown in the image above.

 

  1. Repeat STEPS a through h for the 2nd paper tray.  When you have completed the steps for both trays, go to STEP 10.

 

10. Reinstall the paper trays (1 & 2) into the machine.

 

 

 

 

-      If the error message was Paper Jam [Front], continue to STEP 14.

 

-      If the error message was Paper Jam [Front, Rear], continue to STEP 11.

 

11. Open the Jam Clear Cover (1) on the back of the machine.

 

12. Pull any jammed paper out of the machine.

 

 

13. Close the Jam Clear Cover.

 

 

 

14. Check inside the machine.

 

  1. Lift the Scanner Cover (1) to the open position using the finger hold handles located on the right and left side of the cover. 

 

 

 

 

  1. Carefully check the right and left hand corners inside the machine and remove any paper scraps that may be jammed.

 

  1. Check to see if there is any paper visibly stuck under the print head.  If so, make sure the machine has been disconnected from the AC power and then using your hands slide the print head to take out the paper.

 

NOTE: If the print head is at the right corner and you are not able to move it, do the following:

 

    1. Re-plug the power cord into the power outlet.

 

    1. Hold down the STOP/EXIT key until the print head moves to the middle.

 

    1. Unplug the machine from the power outlet and remove any paper under the print head or in the right corner of the machine.

 

15. Gently close the scanner cover (1).

 

 

 

16. Re-plug the power cord into the power outlet.

 

-      If the error message has cleared and the LCD displays date and time, go to STEP 17 to test the machine.

 

-      If any of the Paper Jam messages reappear, disconnect the machine from the power outlet and repeat STEPS 14 through 16 one more time to make sure you didn't miss any jammed paper or paper scraps. If any of the Paper Jam messages reappear after repeating the steps, go to WARRANTY AND SERVICE OPTIONS.

 

-      If any other error message appears, search for specific error and follow the solution related to that error message. 

 

17. Print a Print Quality Check Sheet (PQCS) to test the machine:

 

a.    Press   on the touch panel.

 

b.    Press TEST PRINT.

 

c.    Press PRINT QUALITY.

 

d.    Press COLOR START.

 

-      If the PQCS prints and ejects correctly with no error message appearing on the LCD, the issue is resolved. Press STOP/EXIT to return to the date & time display.

 

-      If one of the Paper Jam messages reappears, go to STEP 18.

 

-      If any other error message appears, search for the specific error and follow the solution related to that error message. 

 

18. Confirm the paper being used in the paper trays meets the machine paper requirements (Check the paper packaging if necessary):

Note: Do not use any of the following types of paper:

Damaged, curled, wrinkled or irregularly shaped paper. 

Extremely shiny or highly textured paper. 

Paper that cannot be arranged uniformly when stacked.

 

-      If the paper meets the machine paper requirements, go to WARRANTY AND SERVICE OPTIONS.

 

-      If the paper does not meet the machine paper requirements, replace it with paper that does meet the requirements.  After replacing the paper, if the error message does not clear, go to STEP 5 to repeat the troubleshooting steps.
