PART I: Gather the wireless network settings of your wireless access point or wireless router

Gather the following wireless network settings of your access point or router.  Refer to the access point's user guide for instructions on accessing the network settings information.

SSID or Network Name

The name of your Wireless Network or Access Point

Authentication Method

Open System, Shared Key, WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK, LEAP

Encryption Mode

None, WEP, TKIP, AES, CKIP

Network Key

Depending on the Encryption Mode of your wireless network, a network key or password may be required

If you are using MAC (Media Access Control) Filtering/MAC Address Access Control on your access point or router, add the printers MAC Address to the table.  The MAC Address is available on the Wireless Settings Page.  Press the GO button (control panel button) 3 times on the printer to print the Wireless Settings.  Make sure the Node Type is Brother NC-7800w.

IMPORTANT:  Some access points and routers have both a primary and guest network.  Guest networks allow access to the network Internet connection, but restricts direct access to the network.  The Brother machine should be setup on the primary network and not the guest network.

If you do not have the network settings information or cannot find this information, refer to the solution - How do I find the Wireless Security Information in Windows?

If you need to contact your router manufacturer for assistance gathering the required information, refer to the following link to obtain contact information for common router manufacturers:

PART II: Perform a factory reset on the printer network card

1.    Turn off the power switch on the right side of the printer.

2.    Hold down the GO button as you turn on the power switch. Keep the GO button pressed down until the Toner, Drum, and Error LEDs light up.  The Ready LED will be off.

4.    Press the GO button 6 times. The printer network card is now reset.

PART III: Enable the Wireless Network Card

1.    Hold down the GO button for about 15 seconds.  Release the GO button when the printer prints the Network Configuration page.

2.    The text to the right of IEEE 802.11b/g in the Node Type section will indicate that the wireless network card is active or inactive.

-      Active means that the wireless setting is enabled.  Continue to PART IV.

-      Inactive means that the wireless setting is disabled.  Repeat STEP 1.

PART IV: Print out the Printer Settings pages to determine the IP Address

1.    Wait 1 minute. It is very important to wait 1 minute after the reset before continuing. If you do not wait at least 1 minute, the Brother machine may not have enough time to reset.

a.    IP Address of the printer is a 169.254.x.x number.

b.    Comm Mode is Ad-hoc.

c.    Name (SSID) is SETUP.
