The machine does not turn on (no power) when using an AC adapter, how can I correct this?

If the wrong power adapter is used, it can cause the machine not to power up.            


1. The recommend adapter for this machine is the AD24ES or AD24.


The label on the adapter should indicates that it is an AD24ES or AD24, this is a Switching Adapter with an Output of 9V 1.6A. The label should also indicate the “+” POSITIVE and the “-” NEGATIVE contacts of the adapter plug.  The outside surface of the tip at the end of the plug should be “+” POSITIVE and the inside contact should be “-” NEGATIVE


Using a wrong adapter can DAMAGE the machine internally, not covered by the warranty.  You can order the adapter directly from Brother Accessory Sales Department at 1-877-552-6255 or at our website at     


2. Try connecting the adapter to a different electrical outlet.


3. If the machine still has no power, test the electrical outlet with another device (a working lamp, radio, etc.).  If that device does not work, the problem is related to the electrical outlet.


4. If the machine is new just out the box, please remove the protective film from the display.  The film blocks the view, causing difficulty in distinguishing if the machine is ON or OFF.

Note: If the display appears to be foggy or there are bubbles, the protective film has not been removed.


5. Try power up the machine with 6 “AAA” alkaline batteries (ensure that the adapter plug is disconnected from the machine and the batteries are installed correctly).  If the machine turns on, the adapter could be bad.


If the problem persists, your machine may require service. 


The machine has a one year limited exchange warranty. If the machine is in warranty, call Brother Customer Service at 1-877-Brother (1-877-276-8437) for warranty options.
