Why the Status LED lamp on the machine flashing RED?

Description of Solution 200000035764

The following can cause the Status LED lamp to flash RED:

A. The printer is having problem feeding out the label, not detecting the black box on the right side of the backing tape or a Cutter error.

Note: Only Brother DK label/tape rolls and Pitney Bowes postage label rolls can be use with this printer.

B. The DK label/tape roll “Size” in the printer does not match the “Size” selected in the software.

Note: The Size of the DK label/tape roll is listed on the left side of the spool.

C. There is a communication error between the PC and the label printer.

Please follow the steps below to isolate the problem.

1. See if there is an error message on the PC screen; it may give a clue to why the Status LED is flashing RED.

2. Turn the printer OFF and back ON again.  The Status LED should light up in GREEN.  If not, turn OFF the printer and check the area where the label exits from the printer.  Remove any label that may have jammed inside the printer.  Turn ON the printer; if the Status LED continues to flash RED, then the printer needs service.

3. Press the FEED button, the Status LED should remain GREEN.  If a Die-cut label roll is installed in the printer, it is normal for the printer to feed the label/tape backward when the FEED button is pressed.  As long as the Status LED remains GREEN, it is OK.

If the Status LED in not GREEN, turn OFF the printer and try reinstalling the DK label/tape roll.

Ensure the labels/tape is NOT under the right foot of the spool (the foot has to make direct contact with the five switches located on the right side of the compartment).  The tab on the right side of the spool has to slide between the opening of the guides on the right side and the roll is seated firmly in the compartment.

Ensure the tape backing is facing up (contains the Brother logo and the black boxes) and the label/tape facing down, thread the end of the roll into the slot until the edge of the roll can be seen at the front of the printer.  If the end cannot be threaded through to the front of the printer, there could be a label jammed inside the printer.  Insert a business card from the DK roll compartment and try pushing the jam label out toward the front of the printer.

4. Press the CUT button, the Status LED should remain in GREEN.

5. Go to the P-touch Editor software; ensure the label Size selected in the software matches the DK roll Size in the printer, both visually and by clicking on the Check Media button/icon and then try printing a test label.

6. If the label size matches and the Status LED still changes from GREEN to flashing RED or “Communication error” message appears when attempting to print a label:

For Wireless Interface:

A. Ensure the Wi-Fi LED (next to Status) is ON; if not, hold down the Wi-Fi button until it turns ON.

B. Try un-install and re-installing the driver.

For USB Interface:

A. Ensure that the USB cable is connected at both ends.

B. If the USB cable connected to a hub, try connecting the USB cable directly to the PC.

C. Try connecting the USB cable to another USB port of the PC.

D. Try another USB cable.

E. Try un-install and re-installing the driver.  If possible, try connecting the printer to another PC.
