How do I clear the message "Replace Drum"?

Description of Solution 200000036170

The message "Replace Drum" will appear if the drum unit is at the end of its rated life.

Brother strongly recommends that customers use only genuine Brother drum units and/or toner cartridges. Each Brother laser printer is designed to work at pre-set temperatures that are matched exactly to each of our individual toner formulations.  Each individual component is designed to work with the other to ensure quality and reliability. Using non-Brother supplies may affect the hardware performance, print quality and machine reliability. The Brother limited warranty does not apply to any problem that is caused by the use of third party drum units, toner cartridges or toner.

The drum unit part number is DR720 and is a consumable item that requires periodic replacement.

There are many factors that determine the actual drum life, such as temperature, humidity, type of paper and how much toner you use for the number of pages per print job. The estimated drum life is up to 30,000 pages in accordance with ISO/IEC 19752. The actual number of pages your drum will print may be significantly less than these estimates.  Because we have no control over the many factors that determine the actual drum life, we cannot guarantee a minimum number of pages that will be printed by your drum.

1. Press the cover release button and then open the front cover.

2. Remove the old drum unit and toner cartridge assembly.

NOTE: We recommend that you place the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly on a piece of paper in case you accidentally spill or scatter toner.

CAUTION: After you have just used the machine, some internal parts of the machine will be extremely hot. Wait for the machine to cool down before you touch the internal parts of the machine.

3. Hold down the green lock lever on the right and pull the toner cartridge out of the drum unit.

4. Wait to unpack the new drum unit immediately before installing it. Place the old drum unit into the plastic bag and discard it according to local regulations.

- DO NOT put a toner cartridge or a toner cartridge and drum unit into a fire. It could explode, resulting in injuries.

- DO NOT use flammable substances, any type of spray, or an organic solvent/liquid containing alcohol or ammonia to clean the inside or outside of the machine. Doing so could cause a fire. Instead, use only a dry, lint-free cloth.

- Be careful not to inhale toner.

5. Reinstall the toner cartridge into the new drum unit.

6. Reinstall the new drum unit, keeping the front cover open.

7. Press and hold the GO button while the front cover is open until the "Drum Clear" message is displayed on the LCD.

8.  Release the GO button.

9.  Close the front cover of the machine.
