How do I clear the message "Jam Inside"?

Description of Solution 200000038354

To clear the message "Jam Inside", perform the steps listed below.

1. Pull the paper tray completely out of the machine.

2. Use both hands to pull the jammed paper out of the paper tray opening.

3. Press the front cover release button and then open the front cover.

WARNING: If you have just used the machine, some parts inside the machine may be extremely hot.

4. Remove the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly from the printer.  The jammed paper may be pulled out with the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly, or removing the drum and toner assembly may release the paper so you can pull it out of the paper tray opening.

- If you are able to remove the drum assembly and jammed paper, continue to STEP 5.

- If you cannot remove the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly, refer to the solution I am unable to remove my drum and toner from the machine. What can I do?

5. Place the drum unit on a drop cloth or large piece of disposable paper to avoid spilling and scattering the toner.  Hold down the green release lever on the right side of the drum assembly and lift the toner out of the drum unit.  Examine the drum carefully for any pieces of paper or other objects that may be inside.

6. Reinsert the toner cartridge in the drum unit.  Ensure that it clicks into place.

7. Reinsert the drum unit and toner cartridge back into the machine.  Ensure that it clicks into place.

8. Close the front cover, making sure that it clicks into place.

9. Remove the paper from the tray and set the paper guides to the correct paper size.

- It will be necessary to hold the release levers when moving the guides to a larger size.

- The release lever for the left and right guides is located at the middle of the right guide.

- The release lever for the rear guide is in the middle of the rear guide.

NOTE:  Make sure that the guides do NOT push tightly against the paper.  They should be set to the positions marked for the paper size that will be loaded into the tray.  If the guides are pushed too tightly against the edges of the paper, the paper may be unable to feed properly.

10. Fan the paper well to avoid paper jams or misfeeds and then load the paper in the tray.

Do not overfill the tray.  The maximum paper level is marked on the right paper guide with a red line with three arrows pointing at it.

11. Put the paper tray firmly back into the machine.

12. To test, print the Printer Settings by pressing MENU, 4 (Printer), 2 (Print Options), 2 (Configuration).

To prevent paper jams from occurring, be sure to use paper that meets the specifications of the machine. For more information, refer to the solution - What size and type of paper is recommended for use in my Brother machine?

NOTE:  If you are using special paper and the machine has problems feeding it from the paper tray, try the paper again using the multi-purpose (MP) tray with the back cover open.  The MP tray is accessed by lowering the front section of the front cover.
