My typewriter is only printing half of each character, what can I do to correct this?

When the customer is printing it cuts off half the letters.


What type of ribbon is in the machine?  Is it nylon or carbon?

Are the characters cut off or just light and not fully formed?

Are only some characters incorrect? 

1.    Is the ribbon loaded properly?

a.    Remove the ribbon.  Are the characters printed in the center of the ribbon?

b.    Verify that the ribbon is smooth and not folded or wrinkled.

c.    If the ribbon is damaged, replace the ribbon to correct the problem.

d.    Insure that the ribbon deck is clean and free of tape or other debris.

e.    Does the ribbon cartridge snap into place when it loads?

2.    Remove the Daisy wheel and inspect it for bent or damaged petals

a.    Reinstall the daisy wheel and press the black lever forward towards the paper.

b.    Insure that the lever locks in place.

c.     If the lever is difficult to push forward, remove the daisy wheel and look into the well in which the daisy wheel rests, then

d.    Remove any debris that interferes with inserting the daisy wheel into the well.

e.    Repeat steps a and b to install the daisy wheel.

3.    If the machine continues to type incorrectly, it may require service.
