My Brother machine has no power. What should I do?

Description of Solution 200000038934

If the Brother machine appears to have no power follow these steps to resolve the problem.

  1. Determine if the machine is in Sleep mode by pressing the STOP/EXIT key located in the upper right hand corner of the control panel.

NOTE: When the Brother machine is idle for a certain period of time it enters Sleep Mode. Sleep Mode is a low power mode that acts as if the machine is turned off. When the machine is in Sleep Mode the LCD display will be blank. If you press a key on the control panel, receive a fax, or print a document from a computer the machine will wake up.

-        If the LCD display lights up and displays the date and time the issue is resolved. For additional information in reference to the Sleep mode settings refer to solution: "Can I adjust the Sleep Mode setting?"

-        If the LCD is blank continue to STEP 2.

  1. Verify that the Brother machine is powered ON by pressing the On/Off key located on the control panel.

-        If the LCD display lights up and shows the Brother logo the issue is resolved.

-        If the LCD is blank continue to STEP 3.

  1. Verify that the power cord is connected to an AC outlet.

-        If the power cord is connected to a surge protector or power switch, remove the cord from the surge protector or power switch and connect it directly to the AC outlet.

NOTE: This is for testing purposes only. Removing the surge protector or power switch assists in determining if the problem is related to the Brother machine. To protect your investment against power surges and lightning, Brother strongly recommends you connect your machine to a surge protector. In particular we suggest you use a surge protector that is compatible with both standard AC power cords and telephone line cords. Surge protectors equipped with telephone jacks will assist in insulating the Brother machine from any power surge that might travel through a telephone line.

-        If the LCD display lights up and shows the Brother logo the issue is resolved.

-        If the LCD is blank verify that the Brother machine is powered ON by pressing the On/Off key located on the upper right hand side of the control panel.

NOTE: If the Brother machine is powered off before disconnecting it from the AC outlet it will remain off, even after reconnecting it, until the On/Off key is pressed.

-        If the LCD display lights up the issue is resolved.

-        If the LCD remains blank continue to STEP 4.

  1. Verify that the AC outlet is working by plugging a known working device (lamp, radio, etc...) directly into the AC outlet.

-         If that device does not work, the problem is related to the AC outlet or circuit, connect the Brother machine to a different, known working, AC outlet. Contact a qualified electrician to repair the circuit.

NOTE: If a wall switch controls the outlet, verify that the switch is ON.
