The wireless printer is connected to the network. How do I install the printer driver in Windows?

1.  Ensure that you are logged on to your computer with Administrator rights.  If you are using a personal firewall (other than Windows Firewall), anti-spyware, or antivirus applications, temporarily disable them.

 

2.  If you have the supplied CD-ROM, verify the CD-ROM lists the operating system installed on your computer.

 

-  If the operating system installed on your computer is listed on the CD-ROM, go to STEP 6.

 

-  If you do not have the supplied CD-ROM or the operating system installed on your computer is not listed on the CD-ROM, you will need to download the software from the Brother web site. Continue to STEP 3.

 

3.  For instructions on how to navigate the Brother website to download the software, please click here

 

4.  Open the temporary folder you save the downloaded file to and double click on the downloaded file.

 

5.  Choose your Language/Country and click OK.  Go to STEP 8.

 

 

6.  Put the supplied CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. If the model name screen appears, choose your machine. If the language screen appears, choose your language.

 

NOTE:  If the CD does not automatically run, browse to (My) Computer and then double click on the Brother icon to run the CD.

 

7. The CD-ROM main menu will appear.  Click Install Printer Driver.

 

 

8.  After reading and accepting the License Agreement, click Yes if you agree to the terms.

 

 

9. Choose Wireless Network Connection and click Next.

 

 

10.  Choose Brother Peer-to-Peer Network Printer and click Next.

 

 

11. If a firewall is detected, choose Change the Firewall port settings to enable network connection and continue with the installation (Recommended).  Click Next to continue.

 

NOTE:  If you are using a firewall other than Windows Firewall or Windows Firewall is off, you may receive a message warning you that the firewall could block network communication. 

 

 

12. The installation screens will appear one after another.  Please wait. It will take a few moments for all the screens to appear.  Do not try to cancel any of the screens during this installation.

 

13.  Choose the Brother machine and click Next.

 

 

NOTE: If the Wireless Device Setup screen below appears instead of the screen above to select the network printer, click here.

 

 

 

14.  The next window may take a few moments to appear.  When the User's Guides screen is displayed, you can click View Manuals on the Web to view the user's guides.  The user's guides are also included on the CD.  Click Next.

 

 

15.  Environmental advice will be displayed, please read the information and click Next.

 

 

16.  When the On-Line Registration screen is displayed, you can click Brother Registration and follow the on-screen instructions.  Once you have completed the registration or if you have already registered your Brother machine, click Next.

 

 

17.  When the "Setup Complete" window appears, make the following selections, and then click Finish:

 

-  You may select Enable Status Monitor on Startup, which is a software tool for monitoring device status and error notification from your PC.

 

We recommend selecting Enable the Network Connection Repair Tool, which is a software application that will check for network problems and automatically attempt to correct them.

 

-  You may select to Set as Default Printer.

 

 

18.  When the "Setup Complete" window appears, make the following selections, and then click Finish:

 

-  You may select OmniJoin - Online Meetings from Brother.  When your computer restarts, a screen with more information about OmniJoin will appear.  (This option may not be available with the downloaded printer driver. To learn more about Omnijoin, please visit http://www.brothercloud.com)

 

-  You may select Brother Product Research and Support Program. When your computer restarts, a web browser screen with the option to participate in Brother Product Research and Support Program will appear.

 

 

19.  You will be prompted to select an option for firmware update notification.  Make your selection and click OK.

 

NOTE: Internet access is required for any firmware upgrades.

 

 

 

20.  Setup is complete.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Troubleshooting for Wireless Device Setup

 

If the Wireless Device Setup screen appears:

 

-  The printer is not connected to the same network as your computer

Or

-  A firewall may be blocking the printer

 

1.  Print the Printer Settings by pressing the OK key 3 times.  Look at the last page.

 

2.  Locate the Interface near the top of the page.  

 

 

- If the Interface is WirelessLAN on, go to STEP 3

 

- If the Interface is WiredLAN on or if Interface is not listed near the top of the page and the last page shows the Remaining Life of the toners and drums, enable the wireless network card by following the steps below.

 

a. Press the UP or DOWN ARROW key to select Network. Press OK.

 

b. Press the UP or DOWN ARROW key to select WLAN. Press OK.

 

c. Press the UP or DOWN ARROW key to select WLAN Enable. Press OK.

 

d. Press the UP or DOWN ARROW key to select ON. Press OK.

 

e. Press the CANCEL key to return the printer to "Ready".

 

f. Wait 1 minute. It is very important to wait 1 minute before continuing. If you do not wait at least 1 minute, the Brother machine may not have enough time to join the network and receive an IP address.

 

g. Print the Printer Settings by pressing the OK key 3 times. Look at the last page and verify the Interface is WirelessLAN on

 

3.  Locate the Name (SSID) near the bottom and confirm it is the name network your computer is currently connected to.

 

 

 

 

4.  In the bottom right corner of your computer screen (near the time), you may see a wireless network icon.  If you hover your mouse over the icon or click the icon, it will list the wireless network the computer is currently connected to.

 

This wireless network must match the Name (SSID) listed on the Printer Settings page; otherwise, the printer is not connected to the same network and will not be able to print.

 

-  If you had to change your computer to match the network the printer was on, go to STEP 6 below. 

 

-  If the computer and printer Name SSID matched, continue to the next step.

 

5.  For Windows Firewall users, click here   if you need instructions for disabling the Windows Firewall.  For a third-party firewall, such as Norton or McAfee, refer to your software's documentation for instructions on how to disable the application.

 

6.  Click the Back button on the bottom of the Wireless Device Setup screen. 

 

 

 

 

7.  Continue from STEP 10 of the printer driver installation steps.  The printer should now be detected on the network.
