Description of Problem 100000031055

How do I add a local or network printer driver on a Windows 8, 8.1, or Server 2012 computer?

Description of Solution 200000039919

1.  For Local users: If you haven't already done so, connect the interface cable and power on the machine while connected to the Internet.  The computer should automatically search for and install the appropriate driver.

For Network users: The Brother machine should first be connected to the network in order to add the printer driver.  Continue to STEP 2.

2.  If you have the supplied CD-ROM, verify the CD-ROM lists the operating system installed on your computer.

-  If the operating system installed on your computer is listed on the CD-ROM, go to STEP 3.

-  If you do not have the supplied CD-ROM or the operating system installed on your computer is not listed on the CD-ROM, you will need to download and extract the Printer Driver.  If you need instructions, refer to the solution -  "How do I navigate the Brother website to download software, drivers, and utilities?"

3. Open the Printer folder.

a.  Move your mouse to the lower left corner of the Desktop or Start screen.

b.  Right-click the screen and then left-click Control Panel.

c.  Under Hardware and Sound, click View devices and printers.

4. Click Add a printer.

5. You will see a message stating: Searching For Available Printers.  The list will populate with available printers.

6. Select your Brother machine from the list of available printers and click NEXT.

NOTE: If the machine is not found, then the computer is not communicating properly with the Brother machine.  You will need to connect the machine and/or the computer to your network and ensure that there are no firewalls or security settings blocking the communication.

7.  Click HAVE DISK.

8.  Click BROWSE and specify the location of the drivers either from the download or on the disc (if compatible with your Operating System).

NOTE: The driver's location on the disc will vary depending on the model and the computer's operating system.  (Ex: x:\install\driver\gdi\32\usa)

9.  Click OPEN.

10.  Click OK.

11.  Select the model name and click NEXT

12.  If you receive a message stating that a driver is already installed, select Replace The Current Driver and click NEXT.

13.  It is recommended that you leave the default printer name and click NEXT.

14. If prompted and you want to use your Brother machine as the default printer, check Set As The Default Printer.

15.  You may click PRINT A TEST PAGE to check if your machine is working properly.

16.  Click FINISH.  The driver is now installed.
